Sunny's Story

If you remember me, you know I was married in October 1965 at beginning of our senior year, to Randy Prescott, a local boy from Kittery. After graduation I worked in Portsmouth until January 1967 when our daughter, Gina was born. She was 5 weeks old when Randy was shipped to Vietnam, and 8 months old when he returned Initially he was stationed in Boston, but was transferred to a ship stationed out of Mayport FL while he was in Vietnam. In late 1967 we moved to Mayport, FL until the Spring of 1968. I returned home when Randy's ship left for a 6 month Mediterranean cruise. Our son Scott was born in September 1968. Randy returned a week later. We moved back to Florida until mid 1969 when Randy was finally discharged and we returned to Portsmouth. Randy went to work at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and I became a stay-at-home Mom for a few years. Our second son, John was born in July 1972. In 1973 the shipyard laid off the apprentices and we transferred to the Charleston Naval Shipyard in Charleston SC. I took a clerical position with the Social Security Administration, in August 1975, and began a 34 year career with that federal agency. Although I loved Charleston, and we lived there 15 years, it also was at times, a difficult 15 years. In March of 1976 we lost our precious son John, and in 1985 Randy fought and survived his first bout with cancer. In 1987 I was promoted with the agency to West Palm Beach, FL and Randy quit the shipyard...Expand for more
and began work at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, also in West Palm Beach FL In 1989 I was promoted to a management position, and again Randy fought and won his second battle with cancer. In 1991 Randy fought his last battle with cancer and died May 5, 1992 at age 46. During this time, the kids went off to college; Gina to the College of Charleston, and Scott to Clemson. Both have since married, each had a son, and both are divorced. In 1993 I was promoted to an office manager position with the agency in a small town in North Carolina. Who would have ever thought I would be grateful for Miss Brown's business classes? I spent 10 years in North Carolina, before taking a lateral position back to West Palm Beach, where I wanted to retire. I officially retired from Social Security in January 2009. My grandsons are now 17 and 15, and they and their parents live here in Florida. Gina is a teacher, and my son, Scott now works for the Social Security Administration. I am sorry to say, I have lost contact with most of my classmates, except Kendra Kersey, and of course Mary Ann Gerbino (Arel), who was my bridesmaid. Up until a couple years ago, I was in touch with Mrs. Daniels, but assume after 40 years, she may have passed. If anyone knows of or knows the whereabouts of my sister (Judy Clark-class of 1965)please contact me. That is about it for my life for the last 40 years. I totally LOVE retirement, and spending time with my kids and grandkids.
