Gerry's Story

March 23, 2016 Life My Spouse I met my wife in Sioux City, Iowa. She was working as an usherette in one of theatres in the group that I worked for. My Pets Mysti, our white German Shepard, was the last of our 4 German Shepherds. She went on ahead to wait for us just short of her 13th birthday. She had a good life as did the others. Parting with her was as sad as with Gizmo, Mercury and Kasse but they left us with a host of pleasant memories. Fortunately our neighbors have a few dogs to take up the slack, especially the newest addition by the name of Gotham, a 135 pound year old Great Dane who is extremely LARGE, super friendly and comes with an abundance of affection. My Kids We have two daughters. The oldest, Geri Lyne, lives in Oregon and is employed by the State of Oregon. She has enjoyed community theatre since being cast in Annie as one of the orphans at the age of 9, appearing in some 50+ productions, directed 2 and has done choreography on others. Our youngest graduduate with a Bachelor of Music degree and is in her 14th year of teaching music in the Omaha Public School system. She completed her Master's Degree around 2013. We have survived 54+ years of marriage. My 44 years with the Douglas Theatre Company in Omaha ended in 2009 as the company sold its theatres to Marcus Theatres out of Wisconsin. a Center Theatre which I opened new in 1967 was not included in the sale. The real estate company that purchased that property asked me to watch over the empty building for them in June of 2009. The building and I were attached to each other until the end of August 2015 at which time the Omaha Gun Club purchased and took possession of the building, peacefully, for the purpose of turning it into an upscale gun club. That officially entered me into the state of permanently being retired. So far so good. No with-drawl symptoms in parting the 60 years of uninterrupted employment. And so it goes. . Sue had the misfortune of having her right leg amputated at the knee on 7/1/11 due to two blood clots. She is able to get around with the aid of a wheel chair and/or walker. Walking without either is still a difficult challange and a continues to be a work in progress. She is able to drive a little but generally prefers not to.. I am still stuck in the '50s...musically at least. YouTube is a great doorway to the artists from the good old days. Photography is another enjoyable hobby. Several Facebook groups, You Might Be From La Crosse...If..., Mississippi River Pictures and Railroad Heritage Magazine, have many excellent pictures posted by the members. The groups are very civil and pretty much void of politics. Regards to all.
