Gerald's Story
Life
While attending California State University at Long Beach, I met the brother of my spouse. He had moved into an apartment building in Long Beach, CA. several houses down the street from where I lived. His sister came from Pennsylvania in the summer of 1960, to stay with with him and to attend college, but he never introduced her to me.
A year and a half later, on December 27, 1962, I saw her walking on Atlantic Avenue in Long Beach, and I followed her into a shoe store and introduced myself. Our first date was for the New Year's eve concert at the Long Beach Convention Center to hear and dance to Ray Charles and his orchestra, and the rest as they say, is history. We were married on February 14, 1964.
My daughter attended college at Pepperdine University on an academic scholarship, majoring in Psychology. She now writes the procedures for the improvement process going on within SBC and AT&T in their San Ramon, CA Office. She travels from time to time to Anaheim, CA to perform her job, so we get to see her about 6 times a year here or traveling north to see her.
I am fully retired as of Friday, March 2nd, 2007!!! Now I will work when I feel like working and if I want to work! I've got lots of hobbies and places I want to see, food to taste, and roses to smell. I am getting used to this retirement thing real quick! :-)
I guess I should not have said that I was fully retired as I teach a class in Pneumatic Controls and Building Automation, part-time, two nights a week. I teach one night a week (18 week course each semester) at the Joint Journeyman and Apprentice Training Center (JJATC) in Los Angeles over the past 22 1/2 years, and one night a week at Orange Coast Community College (16 week class each semester) for the past 10 years.

Greetings to all my fellow Connies and Clems!! Little did we know how important and how much fun our high school days were going to be for us. I would have done a few things differently knowing what I know now. I was a good student as well as athletic (football, basketball and track), but I know I could have been an even better student although 3.73 GPA is not too bad. Nothing could make me give up the many happy days spent at AUHS!!!
I also attended Stevenson Jr. H.S. (9th Grade) and Roosevelt H.S. (10th Grade) in Los Angeles, after moving to California from New Jersey in 1955, and made many friends at both schools, some of whom are still friends to this day.

ool, I attended Long Beach City College LBCC) from Sept 1959 until June of 1961, graduating with an AA degree in Industrial Technology. While attending LBCC I was a starting member of the 1960 Junior College National Championship Football team, and a member of the Student council at the Business and Technology Campus. I also was one of 6 students awarded the J.C. Hollingsworth Award for outstanding academic performance (3.73 GPA after completing 66 units in 2 yrs), extracurricular activities and citizenship.
I matriculated from LBCC to California State University at Long Beach on an athletic scholarship for football. I attended CSULB until 1963 when I joined the US Marine Corps. After working for a number of years I returned to CSULB to complete my BS degree, then transferred to CSU Dominguez Hills to complete my Masters Degree (MBA).
Over the past 42 plus years I have worked in several industries including the Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning Industry(HVAC) .
I have completed an MBA with an emphasis in Management and Marketing. I have a California Secondary Credential to teach Management, Marketing and Industrial Technology at the college level. I also taught part-time for 3 years at Long Beach City College teaching classes in Management and Supervision.
I also have a California Vocational Credential to teach Air Conditioning and Pneumatic and Building Automation Controls, and have been teaching these subjects part-time for the past 24+ years including teaching classes for wholesalers and contractors in the HVAC Industry.
I have completed a dissertation for my doctorate in Educational Leadership. Just call me Dr. Woodward (EdD)!
The most important things to me over my lifetime are God, my family, my friends and my country! Everything else has less importance.
Latest updates to my profile are that I retired from teaching at the JJATC Training Center in January 2020 after teaching part-time two nights a week for 26 years. I retired from Orange Coast College in December 2019, after completing 13 years 17th teaching Commercial Buildings Pneuwmatic Controls and Building Automation for Commercial Buildings. Prior to jioining Orange Coast College, I taught three years at Long Beach City College teaching Management and Supervison classes until the college’s funding was cut and 100 part-time instructors were cut.
November 18, 2021, I suffered my greatest loss when I lost my bride of 57 years, 9 months and 4 days to stage-4 breast cancer..
