Workplace
I was employed at N.A.L. Phila. Intl Airport from 1960 to 1978.
I worked two years on the Ramp and five years as a ticket agent. I worked in cargo about eight years before returning to the main terminal. When the company closed the Phila. station in 1978 I elected to take a job offer at Northwest Airlines rather than transfer. I was employed at NWA for five years until layoff due to a flight cut-back. I then worked at Pan American Airways for about eight more years. Panam went out of service in 1991 and I thought that this is it for my airline career....Expand for more
Military
I ENTERED USMC IN JAN 1956, WAS ASSIGNED TO PARRIS ISLAND RECRUIT DEPOT, PLATOON 31. I GRADUATED IN APRIL 1956. MY DIs WERE SSGT BARE AND SSGT WILCHER, I ALSO CAN RECALL FIRING FOR RECORD AT THE RIFLE RANGE ON A DAY WITH HEAVY RAIN AND HIGH WINDS. MOST OF MY PLATOON DIDNOT QUALIFY DUE TO THE WEATHER CONDITIONS. AN INTERESTING MEMORY OF THIS DAY WAS OUR DIs HAD THE NON-QUALIFIERS TURN THEIR UTILITY JACKETS BACKWARD AND THEIR CAPS REVERSED WHEN A WARRANT OFFICER CAME UP TO OUR PLATOON AND ADVISED THE DIs THIS ACTION WAS NOT NECESSARY DUE TO THE WEATHER.
