Gerard's Story

Life Blessed - that's for sure. I have a wonderful wife of almost 18 years, an awesome career and family and friends that are out of this world. And of course I have my health (but a few pounds heavier - grin - ;) Right out of of highschool I served our countrty as a U.S. Marine, went to college, got my first real job, met my wife, got married, bought a house, tried to have kids (but the Good Lord had other plans; at least the "process" was fun ...), was promoted several times, graduated college (the 20 year plan ...), still work for the same company (wow) and now Sandi and I get to look forward to the next tropical getaway. Let's see - Fiji sounds good - and one of those drinks with an umbrella in it ... School I wouldn't change anyhting. I have some of the fondest memories and friendships from UHS. Teachers that really helped me learn: Ms. McRoberts Ms. Troxel Mr. Buhalis Mr. Brotherton I'll have to go back to the year books to get more names ... but needless to say UHS had some outstanding teachers. College Started at Macomb College in 1983. Graduated finally in 1995 with a 2 year pre-engineering degree. As you can tell I took some time off. Started at Oakland University in Engineering in 2001 then switched to Business Management since my responsibilities at work changed. Finally graduated in 2006 with a bachelor's. I plan to go back for my MBA or finish my EE/ME degree and then a masters in one of those. My dream is to get my PHd - but realisitically I do not see that happening. Workplace Started as a test technician at Pegasus Laboratories in 1985. We provided testing services for all the automotive OEM's. Company changed to Schenck Pegasus after a German company bought us out. Promoted to Associate Engineer in 1994, then to Project Engineer/Leader in 1997 and then to Lab Supervisor in 1999. In 2002...Expand for more
I made my first jump to management and served as the company Quality Manager. 6 months later I found myself in charge of the testing business unit as the Business Unit Manager. In 2004 I was promoted to Operations Manager and then later in the year promoted to Vice-President of Operations still keeping the responsibility of Business Unit Manager. At the end of 2005 we were bought out by a Japanese company called Horiba and unfortunately because of consolidation I had to yield to the new management structure. I was given the position of Director of Quality - with national responsbility so in a sense it was a promotion. I still retain responsibility as Business Unit Manager. I can say I have been truly blessed being with the same company for almost 22 years. Military I entered MCRD (Marine Corp Recruit Depot) - San Diego (they call us Hollywood Marines) on 6/9/1982. That day forward my life changed. Graduated September 3rd of that same year and then went to 29 Palms (right outside Palm Springs) for radio school. I trained to be a teletype operator (that equipment has since been replaced with hi-tech computer equipment) and had visions of grandeur of going into special forces. That never materialized. I never saw any action, since I was primarily a reservist. But I did make some great friends and learned leadership skills that I would not trade for anything. Prior to meeting my wife Sandi, I made preparations to enter into Officer Candidate School (OCS) and become a pilot. Because of my corrected vision I could only enter in as a RIO (radar intercept officer) and on top of that I was only one year into college. It was a wonderful dream, but never realized. I finally retired in 1988 and was honorably discharged. I am proud to have served and periodically still see the friends I went to boot camp and radio school with. Semper Fidelis!!!
