Gil's Story
Life
Let's see; it's simple. I graduated from Libbey, got a BS from TU, an MS for U of Wash and the PhD course work from U of Mich. I worked for 30+ years in the computer industry (in the US, Europe, Latin America, Japan, Australia and New Zealand), was/am currently a college professor, ran 9 marathons and hundreds of shorter races, made 6 jazz albums, married (and divorced) twice, fathered 2 daughters, joined the Peace Corps and served in Bulgaria, "retired" to Wilson, NC (currently) and now an a professor at two different colleges, play the piano, tutor, and create websites for businesses. I'm looking for things to do, things to learn, and female-type personages to meet.
School
Libbey was wonderful and tramatic and significant. I learned a lot, dated a little, and (sorta) grew up. It's a shame to learn that they're tearing the place down, but at least I have pictures, and memories.
College
My BS in Engr Physics at U of T was just 4 years of hard work: 19 credit hours per semester plus playing in nightclubs on the weekends with my jazz combo. My MS was more fun (at U of Wash) working 50-60 hours per week at Boeing and going to grad school in the mornings and on weekends. My PhD work...Expand for more
was equally hard (shared with U of Wash and U of Mich) but I just couldn't get it done: the call of money and importance in the computer industry ruled over trying to fight the university political system for degree confirmation.
Workplace
My life now is "simple". I'm an adjunct professor (physics, math, hydraulics, and computer science) at 2 different universities (Barton and Wilson Tech), a website designer and maintainer, piano teacher, coach for a running club, tutor in math and physics, consultant in home computer use, house pianist at a local coffee bar, and I find a few spare minutes to bike ride 40 miles per week, power walk 10-20 miles per week, lift weights, practice my piano, read tons of books on cosmology and science, go to a weekly wine tasting, tutor English to Bulgarians over Internet, and brew my own beer. After all, I'm 67 now and have to slow down, right?
Military
I never made it into the service. The US Government apparently thought it better that I stay in private industry (The Boeing Company) during my 20's and instead help design nuclear weapons. I did get to do a tour in the Peace Corps (Bulgaria - 1998 to 2000), a truly unique experience I'll NEVER do again.
