Gilbert's Story
Life
I am a Sr. Staff Scientist (chemical engineer/chemist) on a temporary assignment at Syngenta Ag Chemicals in Mobile, Alabama (Syngenta is based in Switzerland and #1 in the world in crop protection). I have been very fortunate to have made a number of technical achievements (discoveries/patents) which have lead to build a couple of manufacturing plant sites in Tennessee and Alabama. This has also given me the opportunity to travel within the country and abroad.
My permanent home is in the San Francisco Bay area since 1972. I've started my career with Stauffer Chemicals in the Silicon Valley (San Jose) and in 1978 I was relocated to the Western Research Center in Richmond, CA.
I am married to Elvira the love of my life and we have four sons all out of UCLA, UC Davis and San Francisco State (thank God we're done with that... for it can be expensive as you'll know!). My oldest son is 32 and the yo...Expand for more
ungest 23. We were also blessed with 6 beautiful grandchildren.
I currently live in my dream place just outside the limits of the port city of Mobile in a 3500 sq ft home sitting on 5 acre wooded lot with my own pond from natural springs (1.5 acre pond)loaded with fish and dozens of ducks/geese floating around. It's a beautiful place but the downside is that it takes a lot of work to keep up.....but the upside is that it keeps me busy and healthy. I often think, how I wish I had a place like this in California where the weather is great and not humid at all. But for that I definitely need to win the lottery to afford it.
I have mixed emotions about my future, I would like to continue with my career.......but at the same time I am hoping for an early retirement package so I can go back home to the bay area to be re-united with family and friends.
I am looking forward is seeing you all at the reunion.
