Gilly's Story
Life
After graduating from Jacksonville High School in Jacksonville, Illinois, I attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and then graduate school and medical school at the University of Illinois (Champaign-Urbana and Chicago campuses). Subsequently I completed my residency in psychiatry at the University of Illinois Neuropsychiatric Institute in Chicago, and later a fellowship in women's mental health.
Somewhere in the process above I got married, and my last name became Friedman instead of Herald. After I became single again I moved to Los Angeles, where I work as a community psyciatrist for Los Angeles county, and also have a private practice in nearby Orange County (where I now live). ealth Editor for ABILITY Magazine, a celebrity-driven health magazine distributed by Time-Warner. While I miss a lot about the Midwest, especially Chicago, deep down I think Southern California is probably the most perfect place in the country to live (sunny all year long, beautiful beaches) -- I have yet to figure out why everyone in the rest of the country hasn't moved here!
Interestingly, I am not the only Gillian Friedman in my neighborhood! There is another Gillian Friedman who is a lawyer here, and apparently clothing stores, pharmacies, etc. sometimes confuse the two of us. We have never met in person but we have emailed.
