Gina's Story

There are other indoor and outdoor interests that aren't listed. ;-O Also, I do not like or drink coffee. I like movies and books and the Beatles as well as the Rolling Stones. I have 2 homes now, with almost 120 acres (since my parents died), and a travel trailer just ready to take off for somewhere any time, as I have no family or job to tie me down. "What about you would surprise everyone at reunion?" I still look much the same and I'm still a little shy. "What's the wildest thing you ever did in school?" I cannot say. "What happened to your first crush?" What first crush? "How do you hope old friends remember you?" Do they remember me? None stayed in touch. "To be truly happy, you would be where, doing what, with whom?" Wherever I wanted to be at the moment, doing whatever I wanted without restraint, traveling the world and doing it all with someone I love and who loves me. "Life doesn't always turn out the way you expect. What's been your biggest surprise?" That I'm single instead of married with kids, or famous. I miss having a family. "You get one do-over. What do you do differently?" I'd go to the prom by myself. I wouldn't have gotten married when I did and changed my life like I did then. "What's the weirdest job you ever had?" 'Coner' at Swensen's Ice Cream Shop, scooping and serving ice cream cones. "Where have you lived? Why did you move?" To Silverdale, WA when newly married and back to TX due to bad economy in WA, and, later to Ventura, CA, for husband's work, then San Diego, CA, upon split, and back to TX after split to my old job and to be near aging parents. Also, I liked the adventure of moving around the country. I did spend the first 20 years of my life living in the Austin area, after all. "How do you blow off steam?" Singing, playing music or piano, screaming, walking, cold showers. "Describe your favorite way to relax." Sleep, kick back in recliner. If I am conscious, 'relax' is not in my vocabulary. "If I could improve my home, I'd remodel" the bathrooms, bedrooms "and add on a" bigger master suite, swimming pool and gym, rainwater collection system and solar power collector. "My dream home would be" a palace overlooking the French or Italian Riviera, or a hilltop mansion or cabin overlooking the Pacific Ocean in CA, HI, OR, WA or AK. Yes, Alaska--love it there, and it's more moderate on the coast. "Which teacher would you love to see again? Why?" Bunny Dees because she was hysterically funny and cool. Richard Watkins so I could fuss and shout at him for a change. Mrs. Jackson because she was a great science teacher. Madame Gaston, if she's still alive. I'd also like to see my 5th grade teacher, Patsy Myers, because she was awesome. "Ever live in a dorm?" Yes, but only could stand it for the first semester of freshman year--it was too noisy all the time. "Join the Greek system?" No, wasn't for me. Did have some fun, though, living on campus at UT because 'The Drag' was just across the street. And, enjoyed an incognito snowball fight with frat boys before Thanksgiving. "My current age is" 55. When I was 12, I thought that people ...Expand for more
my age now would be uncool and old. "I was so completely" WRONG!. Age is a state of mind. I always thought of how old I would be in 2000, 38 old years, thinking that would be a very bad year. I thought my parents were old when I came along as my mom was 34 and my dad was 37 when I was born. My brother's 11 1/2 years older than I am and has lived in California ever since he graduated from UT in 1973 when I was 11. Others my age had young parents. Some people thought my parents were my grandparents--they had premature gray hair. The year 2000 did end up being a very bad year because my dad was diagnosed with brain cancer just days before my 38th birthday (while I happened to be vacationing in Maui) and passed on within 4 months. Mom joined him just 3 years later after 13 years battling breast cancer. Both were ONLY 75 years young. Yes, I miss them dearly. "Working hard?" No. Early retired from an unmentionable federal government agency. Complicated. Not the career I wanted, not the life, etc. They 'did me in.' "If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have" lots of money, free rein, and no supervision "to be able to deal with the day-to-day." "My best friend would tell you I'm" a good friend with a big heart, loyal, very funny and goofy, yet very sensitive, "but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as" quiet, very intelligent, multi-talented, giving and caring. "Still dress like you did 10 (or 20) years ago? Talk style." Yes, sometimes, if I believe I can pull it off. Style, I never cared about or followed style trends. I make my own style. "I share my home with" me, myself, and I. "In 10 years, I hope to be" not in the same situation I'm in now. "I'm going to get there by "not getting stagnant and complacent." "My first job (besides babysitting and working with my dad) was at "Swensen's Ice Cream on Anderson Lane, "where I got paid" less than then current minimum wage, around $1.85/hr "to" serve ice cream cones. "What I remember most about it is" kids don't tip (so I could forget the low wage was due to 'plus tips' to make it more) constant standing was awful, but my friends came in and I got free ice cream. "Share a childhood memory you'll never forget." I'll never forget almost drownng in Barton Creek when I was 11. "If I won $100 million, I'd give" a lot of it to really worthwhile charities, "then spend the rest on" travel "and" leisure. Not. I would not spend the rest. I'd save a lot of it so I'd ensure I'd be set for life. So far, I've traveled to 44 states, 4 continents and 18 countries. Ah, but there's still so much of the world to see. "Do you have a hero? Talk about where your inspiration comes from." My parents were my heroes, hardworking, humble, good and well respected pillars of the community until the end. Both died from cancer three years apart, leaving me devastated, but with good teachings and memories. --------------------------------------- I actually had a whole other story typed in but my computer wonked out on me before I saved it. Thanks, Mr. Dell. So, for once I copied off the 'Story Wizard.' More to follow later… maybe.
