Gina's Story

Life HELLO LONG LOST FREINDS!!! I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU AND CATCH UP!! AFTER GRADUATION I WENT TO COLLEGE IN RENO FOR A YEAR, THEN THOUGHT I WOULD TRY UNLV. I HAVE BEEN LIVING IN LAS VEGAS EVER SINCE. I AM NOW AN ENGINEERING SUPERVISOR FOR A LOCAL TELEPHONE COMPANY AND HAVE BEEN WORKING HERE 20 YEARS...YIKES!! I AM MARRIED TO A GREAT GUY, SCOTT, AND WE HAVE TWO ADORABLE LIL GIRLS. SYDNEY IS 11 AND SIERRA IS 9. THEY ARE ESPECIALLY PRECIOUS TO US AS WE LOST A LIL' GIRL, TAYLOR, TO AN INCURABLE DISEASE IN 1999. SO, WE DON'T TAKE MUCH FOR GRANTED. WE LIVE FOR WEEKENDS! WE DO ALOT OF MOTORSPORTS. IN THE WINTER WE SNOWMOBILE, IN THE SUMMER WE JETSKI AND BOAT, AND IN BETWEEN WE "DO THE DUNES", OR SAND SPORTS, RIDING QUADS AND WE HAVE A MONSTER DUNE BUGGY CALLED MUFASA. College I went to the University of NV, Reno for only one year. I had decided to get my act together, but it was hard to stay focused. I wish I would have stayed for at least another year, but I got talked into moving to Las Vegas to go to UNLV. I actually started working two jobs, and could only go to night classes. So I decided to go to a technical school to get a marketable skill first. That took about a year to get a certificate in Computer Technology. That got me in the door at Sprint, the local telephone company in LV. Since Sprint has an Educational Reimbursement program, I have been taking classes ever since at nights to try to finish my degree. Here it is almost 20 years later, and I finally got my Bachelors degree in Information Technology from th...Expand for more
e University of Phoenix. Workplace I started with Centel Business Systems as a Purchasing Agent in 1987. I really enjoyed that job and the people I worked with. But Centel was sold to Williams Telecommunications in 1990 and I transfered to Centel Net, a long distance startup. I was in data entry there for a year, then I transferred to the Centel Local Telephone Company in 1991 as a Customer Service Representative. Shortly after I became a Service Rep, Centel was bought out by Sprint. I stayed in Customer Service for about 3 years, then I decided to take an apprenticeship as an Installation and Repair Technician. I really loved working outside, climbing poles and meeting people from all over the world who had moved to Las Vegas. I got to see many beautiful homes during my service calls over 3 years. Then I became a Special Services Technician, installing and repairing specially conditioned phone lines for data communication. That was a real challenge, and I learned alot about the function and troubleshooting of High Speed Data lines. So when I put in for an engineering position to design the types of services I installed, I got the job! I then began working on a special project referred to as C2P. Circuit to Packet is the process of replacing all the existing digital switches to packet switches based on ATM technology. When that project ended I was promoted to a Supervisor and an still in that job. So 20 years later, I have been in 8 different positions in the same telecommunications company, but it has never been boring.
