Ginger 's Story

February 2018 Hello and thanks for visiting my profile. I have been adding to it from time to time so below you will see posts from previous years. I can't believe I haven't updated since 2014! Where have the years gone? Can't believe I'm 60 years old. The only consolation is that everyone else in the Class of 1975 is 60, too! Life has been an exciting roller coaster ride and I thank God every day for my blessings. Georgia is still home base for me. I live in Marietta and work for a fantastic law firm in midtown Atlanta. Career has always been important but it became a driving force after my husband passed away in December 2012. I celebrate my 30th anniversary at the firm with a job promotion. Compliance is a new department at the firm and making it happen is full of challenges. I told my boss that I would give him five good years and then train two people to replace me! The downside of being career driven is that it leaves very little time for a personal life. In 2018, I resolve to change things up. My passion is making places and events beautiful and festive. I am in charge of four events each year at the law firm and I get to work with a theme and really flex my creative muscles. It is so much fun for me! Right now, I'm helping one of my sisters do some decorating for a new office space. I love being on a mission to find the perfect piece of furniture or artwork. I'm like a dog with a bone . . . I just can't give it up! I am frequently the very last shopper in the store. But then there's the internet where I can continue the search. My wreath business took a backseat this past year but I am itching to start creating some beautiful things for the spring. And it does look like Spring is coming quickly! It was 75 degrees yesterday on February 21st! I only have one son but he's a peach! Trip is an animator currently working on a Netflix project, but he has a lot of other interests. He has been renovating a house for the past year and has done almost all of the work himself. It's going on the market soon and I know it's going to sell fast. After that, I hope his next project will be to give me a grandchild! We have a wonderful relationship and he makes me laugh every day. He told me, "Stay healthy, Mom. It's going to be a while." I think I may buy a dog this year. There are lots of special people in my life who make me happy - all family and friends - but no special man. I joined a dating site but keep forgetting to sign on. Something else to resolve in 2018! Hope you are all well and happy. Let me hear from you! September 2014 Hey, everyone! I'm enjoying the almost-Fall weather and looking forward to the multi-year SHS reunion on October 18th. I have been looking at old annuals from SHS and listening to some of the great music from the mid-seventies. They are still awesome! I am still working hard at the law firm and most of my spare time is spent making wreaths for the holidays and other occasions. I started making them about a year after my husband died - a sort of therapy, I guess. They were mostly for me but I gave a few as gifts toward the end of 2013. As it turns out, I'm pretty good at it and people like my designs! I started selling in February of this year and have been pretty busy with custom orders. I'm really excited about my first show at the Sprayberry High School Craft Fair on the weekend before Thanksgiving (November 22nd and 23rd). If Sprayberry sounds familiar, it might be because we played them in the 1974 and 1975 seasons at SHS. The school is enormous this will be the 30th year of their Craft Fair - one of the largest and most popular shows in Georgia. If you like that sort of thing and are in town that weekend, drive to Marietta and be sure to stop by my booth (SouthernChoice Wreath Designs) and say hello. I had dinner with my dear friend, Sharon Bellamy Holland (Class of 75) a couple of months ago. I had to laugh when she said, "Ginger, forgive me, but I just can't believe that you are crafty . . . " She looked wonderful and it was so good to see her. It will be good to see you, too, at the Reunion on October 18th! June 2014 Hey, all. Are you enjoying this beautiful spring? Hard to believe it but the first day of Summer is in two weeks! I have been catching up with several classmates over the past few months and it's been great. One, in particular, has taken me for quite a ride down memory lane and reminded me of just how happy my high school days were at SHS. The multi-year reunion (years 1966-1982) will be held on October 18th at the Atlanta Airport Marriott. There is also a discounted room rate if you are coming from out-of-town. More info is below. It's time for the next SHS Multi-Year Reunion! The last one in 2009 was really a lot of fun and it was great to see so many familiar faces. The food was good, the tables were grouped by year, the DJ did a fantastic job and there was a lot of dancing! All the info you need is below. Keith Craddock and the Reunion Committee work so hard . . . they are amazing and I know this year's reunion will the best yet. As for me, it seems the only time I'm on Classmates is at Reunion-time. I haven't been on the site in several years and missed a lot of emails from people that I really wanted to hear from. I have now responded to everyone and am waiting to see if they will forgive me :) I promise to visit Classmates faithfully - at least until after the reunion :) My 2009 post is still below and pretty much everything is still the same. I still work for Alston & Bird and live in East Cobb. My 30-year old son is a succe...Expand for more
ssful animator and makes me laugh every day. I have been hinting about grandchildren. He told me to stay healthy because it might be a while :) I still celebrate birthdays and holidays with Michelle, Bobby, Kim, in-laws, nephews and niece. And their assorted dogs! There is one big difference, however. I am a widow now. My precious husband, Roy, died of a massive heart attack on December 1, 2013. It's been a rough year but I like to think that I'm through the worst of it now. I'm doing fun things with friends and family and feeling hopeful about the future. That's progress! I repeat what I said in my 2009 post: I know my life doesn't sound very exciting but I am content, for now. Stay tuned and let me hear from you! June 2009 Hello! I signed up on Classmates.com last year so I could help out with the SHS 2009 Multi-Class Reunion planning. It's coming up fast - hope to see you there on October 17th! I hate to just ramble on but how else will you know what I have been doing? I look forward to reading your ramblings, too. After High School, I attended UGA on scholarship. I came home after my first quarter and our house burned down over the holidays. I never returned for winter quarter. My typing skills really came in handy when I applied for a job at a law firm. I got it and have worked for law firms ever since. I met my future husband in 1976 and moved into my own apartment. My mother was furious and our relationship became strained. My roomate said a sure-fire way to get back into Mom's good graces was to be in a beauty pageant, and she was right. We had a good time shopping for gowns, swimsuits and costumes. I ended up winning the Atlanta title and was first runner up in the State pageant. The man I was dating proposed that same night. We married in 1977 and had a son in 1983. Unfortunately, like so many, we ended up in divorce in 1985. Right after that, my son and I moved to Marietta. For the past 21 years, I have been living in the East Cobb area and working in midtown at the law firm of Alston & Bird. Both have been good fits for me. I have worked as a legal secretary, paralegal, billing coordinator, help desk analyst, and now I work in IT as lead Business Applications trainer. A+B is the best place to work! For those who wonder if I still play the flute, I didn't for many years after our house burned down. The flute burned like everything else! I decided to take lessons again in 2000 and was thrilled that it all came back so quickly. I tried out for the Atlanta Flute Choir and was selected. The Choir performs several times a year. We played with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and in some really incredible venues like the Governor's Mansion, Atlanta History Center and Swan House. I started a quartet (Silverwinds) and we enjoyed success after cutting two Christmas CD's. Unfortunately, I got Carpal Tunnel in both wrists. I had surgery but ultimately it was a choice between my job and playing the flute. My job won and I haven't played my flute for a long time now. My second husband, Roy, and I married 20 years ago on Valentine's Day. Isn't that romantic :) It was a shock when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2001 at age 48. Roy has a terrific attitude so, even though PD has definitely slowed us down, it hasn't knocked us out! Both of us have sons from a previous marriage. While Roy is already a grandfather, I am holding out for my own son to make me a grandmother. Trip is 25 and a recent graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design. He has a degree in Animation and wants to work at Turner Cartoon Network. Until the economy picks up and they start hiring again, he's keeping himself busy with contract work. You can check out his work at tripwynn.com. Both Roy and Trip are great fun to live with and make me laugh every day. My parents and grandparents passed away many years ago, so the Saade family consists of me, Michelle, Bobby and Kim, along with spouses, children and pets! We are so very fortunate to really enjoy spending time with one another. All birthdays, holidays and other special occasions are spent together. We all love to see movies although our preferences are greatly different. We play games on the Wii system, too, and my family enjoys a lot of television. Current faves are the dance shows but when the new season starts up, we will be watching: Fringe, Lost, Grey's Anatomy, Glee, The Simpsons, Heroes, Castle and House. I know that sounds like a lot of TV but I try to walk on the treadmill while watching. That's when I am reminded of cheerleading days and how foolish it was to do all those standing knee drops on the SHS gym floor. Right now, I'm training for the 30-mile Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer which takes place on the weekend of October 4th. I'm a two-year survivor and love having the opportunity to raise money for a cure. If you want to help me reach my fundraising goal, search for the Atlanta 2-Day Walk and click on the Donation link on the left side. Under 2-Day Walkers, click on Donate and then search my last name (Choice). I know my life doesn't sound very exciting but I am content, for now. Hopefully, the future will see me traveling the world (Italy and the Greek Islands top my list). In the meantime, I console myself by visiting a dear friend in Bermuda every other year :) When you visit me on Classmates, I hope you will leave your name. I look forward to visiting you in return and catching up with all of my SHS classmates here and at the Reunion. Go Tigers!
