Virginia (Ginny)'s Story
Life
Life has given me some ups and downs as I was medical discharged from the US Navy. I did work with the Disabled American Veterans, Dept of New Jersey. I currently belong to DAV Chapter 14 Clark, NJ, where I was Commander of the Chapter, and also have held the position of Service Officer. I was the Commander for the State of New Jersey (DAV) 2007 - 2008 and it was a successful year.. I am happy to be a PDC and a past Chapter Commander. It allowed me to do what I enjoy doing helping the Veterans. I have done Vol work at Lyons VA Hospital for the DAV. Help the veteran with their claims and advise them as best as I can. I also held the titles of HSC (Hospital Service Coordinator) and Service Officer. The salary is nothing but the joy of being able to help my fellow veterans, when they are in need. I had to leave this position due to my own service connected disability.
My Daughter Trayce and I have a wonderful relationship. We are friends as well as Mother and Daughter. Lee and I are married 9 year. Trayce is 35 years old and is in a great relationship and is very happy. She loves Lee and so does Mom. My Mom is doing well and lives in Bergen County.
School
Well, I think that we attended Emerson during the best times ever. The streets were safe, we were never driven to school, no matter what time of the year. The times we spent were with good friends from grammar school, or new ones that we just met in HS. The best times for me was sing in the choir and being in the school Variety Shows or Christmas Shows. st big money like they do now. The Dairy Queen, Summit Pizza, swimming at the Old Mill, going to Palisades Amusement Park were some of the good times we all shared. And what would HS be like without our crushes, and we thought we would die if they broke our hearts.
And then some of our friends that left HS to join the service, many came back but some did not, which I think that was the saddest point in all our lives.
College
College came much later for me. I did not attend college till after my daughter was born and was out of the Navy, which allowed me to go back to school on my GI Bill. Got my degrees in Business Management and Accounting and was working at the same time. It was not easy, but with the help of my parents I was able to attend college at night while they watched my daughter.
Military
I finally went into the Navy as I had hoped while I was in HS. Boot Camp was in Orlando, Fla and made some life long friends. There are several that I still keep in contact with. Wish there were more unfortunately we were shipped to different areas and lost touch. I still cherish the times we all came together for one cause and pulled for each other. After boot camp I was stationed on Midway Island and made many life long friends there too. We may be spread all across the states but the fond memories I have of that time period I will never forget. This is where I was always called "BUCKY". My life on Midway was the best in Navy and all the people I left behind I have always cherished and hope to find some of my old buddies. After Midway I was stationed in Hawaii, Phila, and Virginia Beach where I received my discharge. At this time I found out that I was pregnant with my daughter.
