Ginny's Story
Life
I'm a retired school teacher, with 33 years in education. All but 6 of those years were in the classroom, teaching social studies -- mostly US history, US govt, & psychology. For 6 years I was the "State Social Studies Specialist" at the Colorado Dept of Education, which meant I got to see what was going on throughout Colorado and sometimes throughout the nation. Once back in the classroom, I had the challenge of "trying out" all the things I'd learned, and all that I'd tried to teach other teachers. It was both humbling and exciting, a really remarkable opportunity.
I am retired now, mostly cuz my school district came up $25 million in the hole, and it seemed I had a "duty to retire" -- they could hire almost 2 teachers for the price of me after all those years. A hard decision, but ultimately a very positive one.
I'm married for 18 years, with 2 step-children, both grown and gone, both very successful young women. We met when the girls were 4 and 5; today they are 30 and 31. No grandkids yet, and both say never!! Grandpups & grandkitters may be all we get in that department. We have one cat, an aging Ellie-Kitty. Husband Tary and I have had a rather rocky relationship, not at all what I pictured marriage to be. Yet we've learned a great deal and stuck it out so far.
Tary was diagnosed with Parkinson's ...Expand for more
Disease in 1999 or so, which is a challenge... More for him, of course, than me. Learning to be a loving and patient caregiver presents lots of opportunities for growth!! My own health challenges include two 8-hour back surgeries (Dec 05 adn Oct 06). Am regaining mobility with a little -- or rather a LOT of -- help from friends and nephews who encourage me to walk and walk and walk.
I had a GREAT time at our 40th reunion, and very much hope that TONS of us make it "home" to reconnect with each other again for a 45th &/or 50th.
I've lived in Boulder, CO since college, and am seriously contemplating moving back to Sturgis. The family home will be sold soon, and I just might buy it, fix it back up, and paint it again the dark red that it belongs! (It's been blue for a few years! Eeuhh!!)
The "now" photo was at retirement, the "then" photo is HS senior photo...
love to hear from you, both HS classmates and former students!

College
I earned a BS in Economics and Education from Colorado State University in 1971, an MA from University of Colorado approximately 1976... (memory fades)... and about 400 hours past my masters' in a variety of areas of interest -- technology, psychology, gifted education, international education, law-realted ed, etc etc... Am pretty much a "life-long learner."
