Gladys "Penny"'s Story
Hi! I always went by my nickname "Penny" (I'm Gladys Jr.) I only attended Marycrest my senior year. I'm half Klamath Indian and half Mexican. I ended up finding a job at the Urban Indian Program and worked there about seven and half years. Then I went back to college at Haskell Indian Junior College in 1981, in Lawrence, Kansas. I really liked it there. Of course I took art and loved painting. Then I came back to Oregon and went to help my older sister out with her kids in Seaside and met my husband there while working at the seaside care center. That was twenty eight years ago now... We have one son, Denis John, he's 26 now and was a life guard here, but is now looking for something else...I've gone...Expand for more
back to college and want to finish. I've switched from Social Work to Early Childhood Education. I want to end up being a teacher aid. I'm doing a work experience class and I'm doing my time at the Peace Lutheran day care center here in Astoria. I really like working with the little kids, and doing the art projects. Of course I still like doing all kinds of arts and crafts. Really miss everyone, even if my memory can't bring up your name, I can still see your face, and I still can't drive standard...Hopefully I can make the reunion ,I was in Kansas one year and I kept clicking my heels together and still didn't get back...Oh, and in 1977, i was 2nd runner up for Miss Indian Northwest. A proud day for me.
