Sesame (Paulette)'s Story
Hi dear Lafayette-ites,
i have lived in southern Colorado for the past 30 yrs. and in the southwest for nearly 40 yrs. When i left the east coast, after the Woodstock Festival, i acquired a new name - sesame. It was given to me on a type of vision-quest i took in northern New Mexico in the mountains near Taos. My new name inspired me to work in the healing-arts field, i.e. nutrition, and massage therapy. i still see a few local patients and give massages. My main focus is studying and practicing Buddhism in the Tibetan tradition which emphasizes love and compassion for all beings. i meditate daily and do retreats whenever possible.
i am very fortunate in still having my mom in my life. After a bad fall and broken leg due to osteoporosis we decided she really could not live on her own in NYC so we moved her to Co. to be nearer to us. That was in l998 and mom is now 93. She lives in her own handicapped efficient apartment just 30 mts. away and has daily care. We spend many hours, together, reminiscing about her childhood and the "good old days in Brooklyn" and our wonderful memories of that very special time.
i am married to Jim Fowler and we have raised 4 kids who are now between the ages of 30 - 39. We have 3 grand kids; 8 mos., 6 and 12 yrs. old. We live on an ancient mountain called Greenhorn at 8200' and are 10 miles up a county maintained dirt road near a tiny town called Gardner. Our backyard is 1000 acres + of property and national forest. We ar...Expand for more
e in a designated wilderness area and our community is called Libre which has existed since 1968. Mostly, the founding members are artists as is my husband who sculpts in marble, and other beautiful natural materials, paints and makes t-shirts with current themes.
i have chosen to live away from the mainstream and busy cities but stay politically active in my community and on the internet. i am growing a vegetable garden and planting "seeds" in the most creative ways i can by appreciating this precious human lifetime and sharing with others.
Hope you are all well and look forward to catching-up.
On Thanksgiving day 2009 my mom, Billie Glantz, passed away very peacefully in her own home. She had stage 4 colon cancer which had spread to her liver and lungs. She did not want any invasive testing/treatments and did not really want to know how ill she was. i supported her in every way i could to keep her comfortable and happy in her last months which she spent at home. She was attended by her immediate family, long term care-givers and hospice till the very end of her life. We feel very blessed to have had her with us for these many years. She was 94. She died with dignity and grace - the best gift we can offer to our loved ones.
As the circle of life continues - 2 weeks later on Dec. 15th we welcomed a new grand daughter into the family. i will be adding some new photos soon to update all of our family's recent events.
Happy New Year to all!!!
Love, sesame
