Glee's Story

We left Haiti after living there for 20 years. My last year I was the academic guidance counselor and middle school history teacher. We then furloughed in MN in a friend's basement. We reported into all of our churches. for the next six months. Our mission board, Mission Aviation Fellowship then asked my husband to be a recruiter for MAF and to relocate to TX. So we moved down in Jan. 2012 and bought our first house! We love it and find the people to be extremely friendly! So it is onto the next adventure in our lives. Our kids have all finished college and our daughter got her law degree from the Univ. of Virginia, a top law school where she always want to go. She loves the founder, Thomas Jefferson. She has a job lined up in Washington D.C. after she passes the bar. It is an agency that overseas others and helps them with streamlining. So we are happy for her! Life Hi! I graduated from UMD in 1978 in History Education and Phy Ed. After that I taught at Shakopee Jr. High for 3 years. My college sweetheart and I married in 1982 after we both had asked Jesus Christ to be Lord and Savior of our lives. We looked into missions and Mark decided to go for Mission Aviation Fellowship as a pilot/mechanic for single engines, 6 seat airplanes. For his training we first went to seminary in IL and then to Moody Aviation in TN for 3 years. After clearing all debt and having 4 kids we were assigned and went to Haiti in 1991. During the Aristede coup there was shooting all around our house. The kids and I were evacuated out and Mark stayed behind to evacuate people to the Dom. Republic. Never a dull moment! We returned and had to leave again in 1994 after going 4 months w/o electricity. The next ten years we raised our kids, and did have one more short evacuation due to rebels marching on the capital. But the marines restored order and we returned in three weeks. Since then we have returned and I am teaching there in a Christian school. Over the years 1995 until 2010 I have taught U.S. History, Civics, World History 7-8, Comparative Government, Chess 1-12, PE 1-5, Bible 8, Keyboarding 7-8, Speech, Life Skills Transitions, was the Guidance Counselor, Athletic Director, and coached volleyball, basketball, and refereed volleyball. So I have kept busy. Then the earthquake hit. I couldn't get off the couch with the force of it. We had two hanging lamps...Expand for more
that I saw swing, hit the ceiling, and shatter. But our house stayed. My husband was very involved with relief work and MAF got wives and kids out as we were depleting the food supply. I expect to go back this summer as supply lines are reestablished. Our daughter is now studying Constitutional Law at the University of Virginia before we lose all our rights to even say Merry Christmas. Our oldest son has been teaching with me in Haiti and is the youth pastor at our church there. Our next son is studying kinesiology at LeTourneau University in Texas and our last son will be transferring to Liberty in VA studying business. All I know is that parenthood has been a joy and a true blessing from the Lord. It is now May 2013. We have been back in the states since June 2011. Our mission board wants us to be recruiters to help raise up the next generation of missionary pilots. They also asked us to move to Texas as they need a recruiter for the south central USA. My hubby is perfect for the position. With 20 years of cross-cultural experience and 10 years as head of our youth group at church, with many nationalities, he knows how to work with young people. I help him with fundraising as we are still on church and individual support with our ministry partners. And we have bought our first house! We love being home owners, except for the mortgage of course. So if any of you ever pass through Denton, TX, please stop by! The Lord will give you the desires of your heart. Turn to Him, ask Him into your life. I never knew this growing up, just thinking I was a Christian, but never having knowing fully what it could be like. Try it, you'll like it. I would love to hear from people. Hopefully I will be good about writing back! Hopefully there will be a reunion in 2113 as we should be in the states then, just don't know which one. We hope to get to this, but just aren't sure yet. Bye, Glee Workplace After graduating from UMD, I subbed my first year in the Burnsville and Apple Valley school districts. Then for the next 3 years I taught history and Phy ED at Shakopee Jr. High and coached volleyball and track. Then I got married and had kids. I didn't work (for pay) until 1995. Now as we are located in Haiti with my husband's job as a missionary pilot, I teach at an International Christian school. I've taught history, Phy Ed, chess, civics, and Bible.
