Glen's Story
Life
I studied photography at Santa Monica College. I changed majors from photography to Engineering, and transferred to Chico State. I did not do that well in Chico, so I transferred to Cal State Northridge.
At Northridge, I brought up my grades a bit to a more respectable level. I met Anne, the future Mrs. Marcus there (she was also in the Engineering Program.) We both graduated in 1989 with BSEE's.
I went to work for the US Navy at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Port Hueneme. I was a Control Systems Engineer. My area of specialty was the Harpoon Weapon System. I traveled quite a bit, but only for 5 days at a time. I went to most of the Navy Bases or Shipyards in the US. Basically, I would lead a team of Engineers to a ship for systems inspection. I stopped counting at 35 cross-country trips. I also wrote a lot of equipment manuals.
We were married in August 1991
We decided on getting graduate degrees. We both did the MBA thing in 1995.
By that time my job was starting to stagnate. Anne had wanted to move to the Bay area (she's originally from up here.) So we went north.
At that time, the economy in Silicon Valley was booming. I was able to land a job as a Staffing Specialist (read: recruiter) at Raytheon Semiconductors. I was able to transition myself into an Engineering Associate position in the Failure Analysis Lab. That was December 1997. At that same time, Raytheon sold the business to Fairchild Semic...Expand for more
onductors.
Our son Andrew was born in January 1998.
The Engineering Associate position was fun. I learned how to operate a scanning electron microscope, and I re-learned a lot chemistry. My manager had set a goal for me to become a Failure Analysis Engineer in 6 months. I was able to accomplish the move in 3 months. Basically, I was performing autopsies on dead computer chips. Fun Stuff!
I held that position for about a year and a half. Fairchild sold the property, and we moved to a new facility (without a lab.) So I transitioned into a Reliability and Quality Engineer. In a nutshell, I write a program of environmental stresses to verify the Ârobustness of new products. We bake Âem, steam Âem, freeze Âem, and zap Âem.
In 2001, we bought a house in Union City.
Our daughter, Kellie Lynne, was born in June 2002.
As far as hobbies go, IÂve got a few.
I still take photos, but now theyÂre digital. IÂm very particular about my computers, so I build the systems myself.
IÂm also into woodworking. I turn Monte Blanc style pens from exotic woods.
My real passion is Blacksmithing. I go over to a local historic farm (circa 1900) to do my forging. ItÂs a real stress relief, and quite a harmonious experience. ThereÂs something about tending the fire, striking the metal, and seeing your work slowly take shape.
We have 2 pets  a Golden Retriever named Zoe, and a 16 pound tuxedo cat named Rocky.
