Glenda's Story

Life Ok ... The latest... I didn't become a math teacher. Close... I'm an actor. :-) (Yes, Joan of Arcadia is my niece. Riff, the leader of the Jets, is my brother-in-law, and the leader of the rock group The Standells is my husband.) Very exciting... The Standells' biggest hit, Dirty Water, was adopted by the Red Sox Nation as their "anthem", which they play after every win at home. Last year, they tracked us down and the next thing we knew, the band-and wives-were en route to Boston so the Standells could perform right before Game 2 of the 2004 World Series. (I even scarffed dirt from the Sox dugout, but don't tell anyone. This time I'm going for a pix of me with The Red Phone) The Sox have requested the Standells return for the home opener against the Yankees in couple of weeks, as well as appear at the Welcome Home dinner that night. At least it will be a tad bit warmer. My claim to fame is playing Macauley Culkin's mom in the movie, My Girl. I've been in 5 films so far, plus regional theater, some TV and commercials. We also run our own business, which is doing transcription and other post production work for the industry. (Thank goodness for Typing class) We live in "sunny" LA (Northridge) until later this fall when we move out to the high desert (Palmdale) so that my folks can move out from FLA to live with us. Mom's health is fair but it was a lot of stress on Dad this past summer '04, what with boarding up the house...Expand for more
for three hurricanes and dealing with Mom's kidney infection during the biggest of them. There are lots of people from the southeast out here. I am a member of the Southern California Auburn Club, and we have get togethers with all the other SEC alum clubs every so often. We had a fabulous turnout, given the distance, for the first USC-Auburn game. Banks was a great place, even on the worst of days. I had to literally fight the federal bussing order to attend, since I didn't live in the "zone". I learned the hard way how to deal with disappointment and rejection there, a valuable asset in the actor's life. I see where high school was a terrible experience for some folks, and I agree; as in reading A Tale Of Two Cities while the pages fell out of the book... it was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Throughout it all, there were fabulous people across the "red neck" - "freak" spectrum, and it's a shame folks couldn't muster the courage to drop their prejudices and accept people for who they were, not what they wore or how they looked. There are people with whom I lost touch because of petty differences on my part - dear friends who hold a cherished place in my memory and for whom I wish only happiness and peace. I will always love you and remember the good times all the while pray that you will do the same and, sometime, forgive me. Maybe even drop a line or two? Blessings to you one and all. glenda
