Here's the Cliff Notes version:
After graduation I painted houses for a year or so, then I drove trucks, then I moved to San Francisco and joined a cult. Traveled all over the country for the next 10 years. In '82 I landed a job in DC as a newspaper reporter (thank you DHS typing class!). Several years later I began writing magazine articles on all kinds of stuff. In '92 I switched to TV. r at CNN. I've been with CNN going on 17 years. I live near Stone Mountain, Ga., with my wife and 2 kids, a daughter (b. 1993) and a son (b. 1997). I do copy editing and proof-reading on the side for several Atlanta magazines.
School
I enjoyed DHS. I liked my classes and my classmates. For the most part I had good teachers, plus a couple of duds and one or two truly exceptional ones. (RIP, Mr. Layton.) I do wish now that I had been involved in more extracurricular activities. At least I was in the band and played on the tennis team, even though I wasn't terribly good at either. I could have been a better student, and I wish I had been a better friend to more people.
