Glenn's Story

What follows is the 'G' rated version of my life since high school: Right out of school I went to work for Western Electric installing telephone central office equipment. I got transfered around some; Oceanside, El Centro, Brawley, Ventura etc. After 21 months I quit and went to RCC for 3 semesters. Except for Theater Arts, Botany and partying, I hated school. So I worked construction until I got engaged to my first wife, then hired on as an installer/repairman with Pacific Telephone in Dec. '65 because I needed a regular paycheck. When I quit school, my draft status was changed to 1-A, so I had joined the Navel Reserve in August of '65. I got called to active duty 8 months after my marriage, and spent the next 20 months at the Sub base in San Diego as a Cryptographer on the Admiral's staff of Submarine Flotilla One. By the time I got off active duty, I was divorced (no kids) and dating the woman who would become wife #2. I got off active duty on Oct. 1 of 1968, and went back to work for Pacific Tel in Riverside the very next day. I re-married the end of October 1968. She and I had two sons, now 38 and 40 years old. I went into management in 1969, and spent the next 17 years managing one thing or another for Pac Tel in Riverside and the surrounding area, and 9 years as a project manager, writing and delivering technical training and development courses for Pac Bell and Bell Labs. The last year and a half with the phone company were spent as an Outside Plant Maintenance Manager in North Orange County. Wife #2 and I divorced in late 1986. I moved to Corona in 1988, and in Jan. 1992 took an early retirement offer I couldn't refuse. There has been no ...Expand for more
wife #3, although I was with another fine woman for 16 years. That relationship ended unexpectedly in late 2002. After retirement, she and I traveled often. Went all over the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, Australia, and to any island warm enough to have Palm trees. In June of 2004, I enrolled in acting school (DelMar Media Arts in Irvine), got an agent, and started doing TV and Radio commercials, as well as some print work for several Drug company sales brochures. I continued classes, and found that my best (only) asset was my voice, so I focused on VoiceOver training. Now that's all I do. No on camera work at all. I do industrials, animation, documentary narration, and radio and TV commercial voiceovers. I absolutely LOVE it!! I have been writing some stand-up comedy routines for myself and others, as well as some funny 'you'll never hear this on the radio' commercial scripts, and storyteller type jokes. Now and then I do stand-up comedy at a couple of clubs in Long Beach and Fountain Valley on open-mic nights. I always get laughs, but have no plans to put together a professional level act. (at least for now.) My routines are slightly bawdy, but never vulgar, and contain mostly 'observational humor', with a focus on the contrasts in lifestyle between our generation and the current one. I recently completed a World War1 Documentary for PBS. It's title is "Voices of a Never Ending Dawn". I did the narration. (Story teller) It will air on PBS beginning in late 2009 or early 2010, depending on the schedule of each individual PBS station. That's about it. Remember to laugh...every chance you get. ---Glenn Wassman
