Gloria's Story

Life Living in San Antonio now. However, still miss El Paso and would love to live there again. Miss the people, food, desert, almost everything about El Paso. My husband and I are now retired but must admit busier than when we were working....how is that possible. I have 4 grandchildren but hardly ever see them, they are so far away. Have a 27 year old granddaughter, Jewells, who is working for a medical group and going to college; Granddaughter Violet graduated from Las Vegas University with a degree in Science is now working towards a doctorate in Forensic Psychology. Grandson Fabian graduated from high school and attending college; and a granddaughter Ava, is now 15, living in Maryland and attending school. She loves riding horses and is a very intelligent young lady. My son Paul retired after 20+ years in the Air Force and is now working for the Smithsonian in Washington and loving it. My daughter Naomi is an RN working at a Surgical Center in Las Vegas. My daughter Andrea is also working as an RN, working in the Cardio Lab here in San Antonio. Good for mom, free medical advice, not that we need it at our age, huh?? Not to forget my husband of 40 years, James, who worked for Homeland Security as an Adjudication Officer, and worked for Immigration and Customs for many years in El Paso. Of course I would like to give a shout out to my son in law Manny for always being such a gentleman and caring person to my daughter. Professionally, well I worked at the Veterans Administration for over 32 years in several positions. Last one at the VISN 17 Office in Arlington, Tx. Miss the people but not the work. Hope to do some traveling but with 5 dogs and a grand-dog, kind of hard. I do love my pups though, they keep me busy for sure. Chow for now!! School...Expand for more
Biggest crush?? Has got to be Ruben. Teacher who inspired me the most was my biology teacher, cant remember his name but he was cool. If I had to do it all over again, I would not change a thing. My funniest moment was my first day at Austin, going down the stairs and falling, all the way down, with no help I must add. Funny, yes; painful, definetly. What a nerd??!! The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is my grandfather. Ok, so I am a real nerd...I love watching Dancing with the Stars and American Idol. Lessons from kids are numerous. The most important is patience and love. They have brought me so much love and happy moments. If I won $100 million, I'd give some of it to my children, then spend the rest on myself, husband and myself :). My current age is 68. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be dead (LOL). I was so completely off.. My friend and husband James met at the VA. He had just gotten out of the Army and was attending college and working at the VA. We didnt click right away as I thought he was the biggest jerk and so stuck on himself. He turned out to be the most sensitive, caring person I ever had a relationship with. He is truly my soul mate and wouldnt trade him for anyone. People thought we won't last but here it is 40 years later. Same box of cheerios as he puts it. My first job was at CentraLab in El Paso, where I got paid "PEANUTS" to type on some type of telegraphic machine. What I remember most about it is falling on my way to catch a bus to work and spraining my ankle. Seems I have fallen a lot in my life...lol...as lately as this past year and tore my rotator cuff, and had to have surgery, still recovering. Most memorable moment: Living with my grandparents in a small town in East Texas, Marfa.
