After graduation I went to Grand View College (now University), then Centerville. In 1967 I joined the army and went to Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division. I was wounded twice and came home in December 1968. After the army I returned to college, married Sharon Self (Class of '67) in Dec.'71, moved to Hillsboro MO (St. Louis area) as Elementary PE teacher and Defensive Coordinator for the 4A football program. They had lost 23 games in a row. We went 40-29-1 over the next seven years. While in Hillsboro our daughter, Sara, was born in Oct..'73 and our twins, Matt and Molly in May,'77. We moved to Keosauqua, Iowa where I was H.S. history teacher and Head Football Coach at Van Buren High. Sharon worked in the Lab at the Gillfillan Clinic in Bloomfield.
