Grace's Story

After graduation, I immediately began my career as a dispatcher with the Sumter County Sheriff's office and attended college part-time. I gave up on school in 1981 and focused on a career in the law enforcement field. I married twice never had any kids nor want any. After my divorces, I took up country and western dance but after a while the ratio of men to women made me find a new hobby. After 18 years in the Tallahassee area I felt I needed a change so I moved to Niceville/Fort Walton Beach in 2002 to work in the hospitality field. However, I did move away from Florida for one year to Louisville, KY. During that one year, I was terrified of the many tornados that frequented the area that I had to move back to Florida. Needless to say living two blocks from a tornado siren that went off at least three times a week if not more drove me crazy. The closest I got to being in a tornado was while working a 3-11 shift at the Courtyard by Marriott on the east side of Louisville when a tornado went over the hotel and touched down about a 1/2 mile away. The lobby was nothing but glass and there were several guests inside and out watching when the sky got really dark the guests came to me asking what they should do. In my mind, I'm thinking do you not watch the weather channel and listen to Jim Cantore. So I would tell them to go to a hallwa...Expand for more
y or bathroom, somewhere where there are no windows and wait. I finally got the opportunity to return to my old job so I jumped in my car after a 30 day notice and moved back to Niceville. I'm an independent loner who has a simple laid back life with four dogs (all rescues). I gave up on finding Mr. Right because no man seems to have the qualities that I'm looking for. When I'm not working, my preferred midnight shift, I'm usually catching up on my sleep, working in the yard, watching the squirrels and birds or just sitting in the yard enjoying my dogs and the outdoors. I use to enjoy hunting, fishing, camping and hiking. Since I've been single I don't do any of those activities because of the idiot drivers with road rage or under the influence or even the crazies in the world that want to shoot at random people. Today, October 1, 2023, I can't believe it has been 43 years since graduation but it feels like it was just a couple of years ago. Now I am beginning to think about when to start drawing social security, lol, like it is going to provide enough income to live on. As long as my health remains good and I only have nine years to go in order to draw the most of my social security, I will remain working. I'm sure I will still work after drawing social security just to have something to do. No other thoughts to ponder at this time.
