Gracie's Story
Finished Miles College in 1960 with Chemistry major and Math minor. Received masters degree in Organic Chemistry from Atlanta University. Served as first black chemist at the CocaCola company. Completed doctorate degree in Pathology from University of Alabama, Birmingham. Retired from Miles College as Chairman of Natural Science/Math Division after 30 years of service. Also served as Dean of Students. Taught as distance-learning professor after retiring from Miles College. Opened and operated private school (Grace Academy) and retired from this academy in 2010. ee, was able to work in pathology department as research assistant, organic chemist and taught one course in Histology. Published several papers in several research journals. Can only say that God has been so very good to me, for I do not deserve the success that I have experienced. Love and miss so very much all of my classmates from Western-Olin High School. I knew that after our graduation, we would probably never see each other again. This is why I cried so sincerely as I presented the valedictorian speech----the tears were real. I only wish that we could all be together again just once more.
