Grady's Story

I went to Francis Marion in Florence after GCHS. When I graduated from Francis Marion, I immediately went to grad school at USC to get my PhD in Math. After the Masters I was tired of school so I volunteered for Officer Candidate School and joined the Navy. I was asked to be a pilot or a Nuke on subs, but I declined. I was tired of high pressure school. I was a ship driver in the Navy. I got married after my college sweetheart graduated in '87. She then moved to VA where I was. My family and I have been blessed throughout my 23 year Navy career. My family never moved. We remained in the Hampton roads (Norfolk, VA) area for my entire Naval career. one for both of them. My wife, Terricita Adams, is an administrator at Norfolk State University. Our daughter is 17 and will be enrolling at Virginia Commonwealth University to major in Biology. Our son is 15 and currently wants to be a scientist. My wife is currently completing her PhD in Higher Education, so she is very busy and I get to play Mr. Mom. I retired from the Navy as a CDR (Same as a LTCOL) in Aug '08. I was offered the next promotion, but I had to do a year in either Iraq or Afghanistan. I chose to retire instead. I wanted to be home with my family. I am now a Consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton in Norfolk, VA. I am doing basically what I did in the Navy for the last 23 years. We live in Chesapeake, VA, near VA Beach.
