Bob's Story
Life
So much has happened since High School. It is said that one can never move back home once they leave. Now I know why, everyone treats and looks at you as if you were the same person as when you left. For me a young boy, shy, unsure of himself, not tending toward any social or popular group.
Since then each year has brought fresh opportunities and challenges that have helped me to grow and provided new perspectives on life. At Rick's College I was lucky enough to discover a mentor, Mike Thompson, who encouraged me to come out of those shy days and helped me find my self-worth and a strong confidence.
Through my global travels I have experienced many cultures from around the world. It is profound how different we seem at first, and yet, now that I have had the good fortune to become acquainted with so many people from so many countries I cannot help but see our similarities. Families and people have the same hopes and dreams as we do here in the United States. Freedom, peace, and friendship with others.
Additionally, I became involved with student government in college, and then the real world of politics. Ran for public office in Texas and won, but soon found I had the desire to return to California. F...Expand for more
or nearly 30 years I have been a Board member of one of California's largest credit unions and for a number of years a Board member for Bluetooth SIG, Inc.(we developed the technology for that Bluetooth headset you wear and is in your car). In fact, I was adding it up the other day and have been on some 8 corporate boards at one time or another over the past 30+ years.
Have spoken at conferences and universities, participated in global press tours, and had the good fortune of meeting government, corporate and religious leaders from all over the world. Even had a run as producer and host of a weekly radio show in Los Angeles.
Have done radio and TV commercials, attended Harvard Business School, and am a nationally Certified Arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau, among other experiences.
But it's always nice to find some down time and enjoy a quiet weekend every now and then in the mountains at the family ranch, or being with friends.
Life continues to be good and I enjoy the outdoors hiking, swimming, running, tennis, playing tourist, etc. This is after all, southern California.
How things have changed from those early timid days in Bakersfield. And how I've enjoyed the benefit of family and good friends.
