Graham's Story
37 years have past in the twinkling of an eye. When it began we were fighting a pointless, stupid war driven by ignorance, hubris and greed. The result completely predictable. I hoped and prayed that in the 30 years since we could evolve as a nation.
I was wrong, we didn't. We have learned nothing I left high school so full of youthful exuberance. I would conquer the world and retire rich at 35. It didn't quite work out that way. My 20's and 30's disappeared in a blinding flash while I tried to climb the corporate ladder and become a real estate mogul at the same time. Mindy and I woke up one day at 50 and wondered what the hell happened. I'm luckier than some. I've managed a decent life and have lived with the love of my life for 33 of those years. I learned how to fly. I kept my motorcycles. I've travelled the world. Built a beautiful home. Mindy and I also sail our sloop Zephyros whenever we can. Zephyros, the god of the west wind. of Eos, the goddess of the dawn. There is nothing quite as peaceful as standing at the helm in a gentle reach watching the sun come up. I was blessed to have both my parents with me until 55. My father passed away last November and at 85 my mother may follow her mate of 60 years soon. I was lucky enough to see my lovely wife and brother survive cancers that should have taken them both. All in all I am thankful. My sadness however, is seeing how we have actually moved backwards towards the dark ages as a civil society and a nation in these 37 years. Such wonderful progressive social ideals we had back in the late 60's and early 70's. It seems that now we are all immersed in this terrible darkness of anger, violence and fear. We are lead by a sociopath without a soul. What happened?? I've spend a life time building a life here but I don't know if we will be able to retire here. I don't know if I'll want to.
