Greg's Story

Updated 5/14/2021 "What a long, strange trip it has been." My first year at Clark in the 10th grade was freedom I had never known. Like some, I ran with it. I was not the best example of a good student. In the 12th grade, I had to make up 7 credits to graduate. Six classes a day. Extra credits were earned by being a student aid at two elementary schools and a host of other extra credit work. While many had three or four classes in their senior year. It seems I always had to take the road less traveled. Lol. Really it was me being irresponsible, fighting authority, and thought I knew it all. Once I graduated and entered the real world, it was a wake-up call. For all of us. The open campus for me was a license to ditch, party, and be irresponsible. Looking back, I am one of the lucky ones because the lifestyle I chose was self-destructive even though it was fun until it wasn't. After graduating, I married my high school sweetheart, Christina, that lasted three years, and we divorced. Though a year after our divorce, we reconciled for a while. When I was 27, I stopped all partying and got serious about life. I then met my wife Joy, we got married on 9/9/1989 and we had two beautiful daughters, Chelsea (29 years old) and Tori (25 years old). We celebrate 31 years of marriage this month. I love parenthood and miss the years of raising kids. It was the best time of my life. I went to work for Hilton New Projects in 1988, which introduced me to the FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures&Equipment) portion of construction and renovation. Layoffs happened, and I went to work for a subcontractor who believed in me and taught me all facets of the industry. The company, Quality Transportation Services, is where I learned the business and contracting side of an FF&E(Furniture, Fixtires&Equipment) service company from a business mentor I still talk with regularly after 32 years. I was Project Director with a great team on the Luxor Pyramid in 1993. That put my professional career on the map after a successful opening. I started my first company, Choice Installation in 1994. I sold my first company in 1998 to a national company after securing the FF&E contract on the Paris project in 1998. I was Project Director supervising 120 union carpenters and their Foremen working for us on the Paris project I enjoyed my work, loved team building and leadership. I loved the challenge of new construction FF&E work. Our/my work is in 75% of the hotels in Las Vegas. The hotels do soft renovations every 4 years, the change out the furniture, the carpet, drapes, and wallcovering. I handled the furniture. In ...Expand for more
my 30 year career, my companies or companies I have worked for have successfully completed over 120,000 rooms in Las Vegas and several other states, including the Ihalani Resort in Ohau, Hawaii. In 2000, I started my second company, W.I.T. Services. We were in business until 2011, Unfortunately, embezzlement and betrayal by two ten-year employees changed our lives drastically and destroyed the company and 25 years of hard-earned assets. Long story there too. White-Collar Crime Pays In Las Vegas. We have traveled to London, Paris, Israel, Maui, and other places on the planet. I am adding pictures of our travels here every once and a while. God blessed us immensely for many years. My goodness, how the world has changed in 2020. In 2007, I got to meet my daughter, Amber, when she was in her twenties. My high school sweetheart and my first wife is her Mom. The good news is Amber and I have built our relationship in the last 13 years(it's 2020) I was able to help her start her own business in 2016, which she has built and become very successful. I also have two handsome, healthy grandsons. So proud of all three daughters as my youngest daughter, Tori received her Masters' Degree in Psychology in 2019 and doing very well. Her sister, Chelsea works for a medical hardware company providing pins, screws, and other items involved in spinal surgery, she is in the operating room three days a week working with the surgeon and his staff. Chelsea also consults for a petroleum/gas company reviewing, creating, and providing the Federal policy, procedures to a variety of energy companies. Fortunately, all three daughters took a much more responsible road in their teens and twenties than their dad. Thank God too, as many of us, I paid some heavy dues for my choices in my teens and twenties. And after also, just much less chaos. Lol. I guess our experiences, good or bad build upon one another to make us who we are. I am grateful for the full and challenging life God has given me. I also do volunteer work with troubled youth who have substance abuse/alcohol problems. I also pray a lot as the world has changed, not for the better, IMHO. I miss the 70's! Lol Like many of us, I am amazed I have lived this long, My prayers go to those classmates who passed way too early and their families. RIP Bill Bowers, Julie Bushie, among many others, who I still think of and miss at the strangest times. Yet, I have great memories of all of them in my heart. They still bring smiles to my soul when I think of just how special those times were in our youth. Stay safe, stay sane and God bless everyone. Greg
