Greg's Story

Life G.O. Drum Major 1985...man that's been a long time. I couldn't do a back bend for nothing today! lol Hello everyone! How is it going? Well, as for me, I'm a working citizen just trying to make it in the world. I began my career as a television anchor/reporter. I did that for about 6-years or so, in conjucntion with becoming a reporter for NPR (National Public Radio/ D.C.); nonetheless, I decided to become a teacher. Today, I teach English and Literature. It's kind of a settle down career if you will. Yes, being a reporter was quite exciting, but I knew I couldn't keep that excitement up for the rest of my life, so teaching has become my passion. I must say that I'm pleased with the cards life has given me and especially proud to read all of the good things. I now have a masters in supervision/administration and principalship...so go figure. It would be good to hear from you. God Bless! School Most of my memories are with the band. I was drum major in 1985. That's when the bad was really strong and dedicated. Don't get me wrong, previous years in the band were good too. I remember going on the field and doing our thang. I think Mr. Wesely and Mrs. Glover inspired me the most. I guess because they told it like it was and didnt except just anything. They actually inspired me to take my wrting and do somethin...Expand for more
g with it, and to never settle for just good. Plus, all the smart kids were in there, and it made it kinda hard not to work to your full potential. My biggest crush was on Sharonda (1988; we ended dating for a long time...even when I went off to GSU. She was nice, cute, and down to earth. If I had to do it all again...I probably wouldn't because doing it again, gives you the chance to mess it up. Oh yeah...do yall remember going to Mr. Pete's and buying those big ole' hamburgers? Well, to a bunch of poor kids at the time....they looked big. Or what about riding Mrs. Peterson's bus...man it was loud on that bus. That seemed like the longest ride home. One more; do you all remember Ms. Strong and how she would write the math problems down so quickly, but everybody was too scared to ask her to slow down. lol Back in the day, I think we did a good job representing Green Oaks as it was a high respected school. As an educator, I only hear negative things, and find myself wondering what happened to such a beautiful school? Nevertheless, judging from what I've read about everyone here, G.O. did a pretty good job, which means it can happen again. Im not sure what it will take, because you and I both know that the character of children today, are so different from the 80's. Share some of your memories. Id like to hear them.
