Greg's Story

Life I graduated in 1979 and went on to Evergreen College where I received my A.A for G.E focusing on Aeronautical Engineering.I transferred to San Jose State in 1982 and then to Hayward State finishing up with my bachelors in Business Admin/Manufacturing & Procurement. I worked at Balkan Manufacturing for almost 15 years as a journeyman machinist and then worked my way up to management as the Quality Insurance Manager.I commuted to Fremont for 11 years from Discovery Bay and then finally had the opportunity to start my own business in 2004. My family had to make great sacrifices, because my salary was cut in half during my internship.I'm now on my way to creating a successful business.I'm married to a fellow Grizzly(1981) grad- Valerie Martinez in july of 1988 and we had our first child in 1995 Brett and second child in 1998 Jenna. My hobbies are currently my kids and their sport activities. Both kids are swimmers so I spend a lot of time working the swim meets,Gymnastic practice,Karate, water polo. Valerie and I try to find time for eachother here and there. As a family we travel to many places each year.Family time is a big priority for us.We like to camp, fish, bike ride and Golf.I still get a few holes once in awhile.Val makes the travel destinations and we pack up and go- Mexico is one of our favorite places to go.Val and the kids started the " lost&found "program 2 years ago. What is it? All the toys and clothes they no longer want go into the "mexico box" and then at the end of the school year they collect all the coats/sweaters left i...Expand for more
n the lost/found at the local schools, hence "lost/found" name. They wash all the clothes and fix any that can be repaired and I get to lug all this around the airport and finally to the lucky shelter Val finds.Val has all of us fill our suitcases to the brimm and then she and the kids scope out the kids selling gum and she hands them bags of clothes or toys. Many of the locals recognize her and the kids and are very "thankful". It's been a great lesson for the kids, she wants them to recognize that they are blessed and not to take it for granted.Last year we traveled to Cabo San lucas, to see Sammy Hagar yea I 'm one of those crazy guys who sleeps in the street to get our tickets. It's pretty fun I get to meet a lot of nice people sitting in line.I go prepared I bring a camping chair, small cooler, my son's DVD player . Last year we got to see him 4x and Val got a hug and a kiss from him. We now have made it a family tradition and go every year.I guess you could say we are Redrockers for life, even our kids know the words to "Mas Tequilla" and "Marching to Mars". Maybe we'll see one of you there this October in Cabo.I see a few friends from the Bayarea that have moved out our way.In fact, one friend Greg Badal started a pro water ski tournament and Val and I work it for him. It's every year in Sept. and all the pros come out for a great time pros like Todd Restorelli,Andy Mapple and just a few more.We love living here in Discovery Bay and plan to stay here for a long time.We plan to find some property and make a little ranch our next home.
