Greg's Story

Life I am actually not a graduate of North, and had only attended there until mid sophomore year until moving to the Detroit area. I first moved to Eugene (from Michigan) while in the 4th grade. I attended Silver Lea and Kelly....Anyone who was in David White's 6th grade class probably recalls what a unique and actually dynamic teacher he was. How Ms. Jewett (5th grade) tolerated my crap I will never know. Thank God for saints like her! Ms Peterson's English class, Ms Lake's "Drama" class, running cross country with Mr Viohl (nearly barfing after each meet-yech)...they were truly "the best of times, and the worst of times" (ya know-adolescence!). I fondly recall a very eclectic blend of friends in general, while playing little league baseball (the Astros!), and playing in the Jr high concert, honors, and marching bands. It seems that my memories of N.E. High school are a bit blurry due to the 2 distractions I couldnt seem to handle at the time: 1) hormonal (i.e.,falling in "love") and 2) "cultural" (i.e., partying too much). My dad says I grew up too fast--I think it was the otherway around! Despite some of the blurry stuff, thank goodness for the positive seeds that were planted back then. yone who told me something I needed to hear, and apologize to anyone I hurt! Since moving (1971)to metro Detroit I worked as either a night club drummer and various other jobs to sustain my mania for rhythm, rock and roll and accompanying insanity until age 33. A couple of years therafter, obtained an Associates degree, and career as a substance abuse counselor, which has been my vocation the past 15 years or so. Married 1998 and have no children (other than a Beagle named Russell). My wife Wendy and I live in a suburb of Detroit (Ferndale). Despite life's twists and turns, I have been blessed by the love of many good friends and family. I have been back to Eugene to visit several times over that past few decades (my how the area has grown!!). Life is good! My first love is and always will be music and drumming, however am still a bit of a bookworm, and always enjoy talking to all sorts of folks. My wife and I enjoy camping throughout Michigan (upper and lower peninsulas). Have been practicing Tai Chi for the past 4 years or so. I have been a Reiki Practitioner since St Patty's day 2006--enjoying it very much. Still a bit of a hippie I guess! Drop a line if you dare, or care (yeah, I know it's hokey).
