Gregory's Story
Life since LHS: Undergrad (math) at Denison; Graduate schools with statistics (concentrating on forecasting, QC and programming) algorithms) at Michigan St, (not my best decision) then Wisconsin-Madison
I met my spouse (Sue) in UW forecasting class (she was taking it, I was writing its code).
We married in 1978, and spent around 35 years in DeKalb IL. Sue was an Econ prof at Northern Illinois and I mostly commuted to work at a Chicago based market research firm (Information Research). The good news was that the company was virtually next to the Metro train station; the bad news is that it was a 1 1/2 hour one-way commute (read a lot of books, did some work or caught up on sleep).
The "master plan" for a family was 4 kids, 2 sons and 2 daughters so that each sibling would have a brother and a sister. That plan was seriously derailed after the fourth son. We then took the more direct route and ultimately adopted 3 girls. When son #4 left for college he had a friend in his band in need of a home. The family then increased by one more, this one a DACA. s is specially needs so "only" needed to put 6 through college (3 NIU, 2 Univ-Illinois and the valedictorian chose the University of Chicago). All the boys had joint majors, 3 Math-Econ and 1 Econ-Rhetoric (the wild child). Our informal DACA son insisted that he wanted to pay his own way -- we helped some). The 8 have somewhat scattered (UC son stayed in Chicago, two boys are in Austin TX, our PhD is working in DC (living in Maryland), our informal son is now in the Denver area, one daughter moved back to Bulgaria, another lives near us and the special needs daughter lives with us.
Sue retired from NIU 2016 and I followed her into retirement in May 2018 as a Data Science VP at IRI. Sue and I and the 2 daughters relocated last year to Cedar Park TX ( an Austin suburb). I think I saw the climate change movie "The Day After Tomorrow" one too many times; but at least we've settled in the part of that movie's US country that didn't go into the ice age.
I've only been in Lorain once since 1984 and 50th reunion or not won't be making the trip there this year. My best to all.
