Professional Trumpeter My passions are the truth, music, film, philosophy, documentary films, dietary physical fitness, social activism, political activism, mental health advocacy, my family and my dear friends. My musical journey continues as a trumpeter and my influences are vast from rock, blues, jazz, fusion and other amalgams of genres. My biggest influence is Miles Davis. I have always adhered to his advice, "Don't play what's there, play what's not there." A list of favorite films (off the top of my head), The Godfather Parts I and II, The Shawshank Redemption, Cool Hand Luke, Glory, Glengarry Glen Ross, American Beauty, 12 Angry Men, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Silence of the Lambs, Almost Famous, Philadelphia, Full Metal Jacket, Halloween, The Deer Hunter, Ordinary People, Perks of Being a Wildflower, Fargo, The Green Mile, Pulp Fiction, Good Will Hunting, Schindler's List, The Shining, Jaws, There Will Be Blood,Being There, The Thin Red Line (my favorite film about war ever made), Heat and so many, many more.... One of Greg's favorite quotes is:"MY LIFE PHILOSOPHY All that is valuable in human society depends upon the opportunity for development accorded the individual. ~ Albert Einstein ----------------------------------------------------- "The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism - ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power." ~ Franklin Delano Roosevelt ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- "A painting is music you can see, music is a painting you can hear” (Miles Davis) "Jazz to me is the spirit of freedom. I mean real freedom. Freedom to explore. Freedom to express. Freedom to pour out your guts. " (Herbie Hancock). ____________________________________________________ Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions. ~ The Dalai Lama ----------------------------------------------------" If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion. ~ The Dalai Lama ---------------------------------------------------- Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible. ~ The Dalai Lama ---------------------------------------------------- “To know you have enough is to be rich.” ~ The Tao Te Ching ---------------------------------------------------- America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves. ~ Abraham Lincoln ...................................................... "Don't play what's there, play what's not there. ~Miles Dewey Davis III ...................................................... Anger dwells only in the bosom of fools. ~ Albert Einstein ----------------------------------------------------- “Do not conquer the world with force, for force only causes resistance. Thorns spring up when an army passes. Years of misery follow a great victory. Do only what needs to be done without using violence.” ~ The Tao Te Ching ----------------------------------------------------- “Whoever can see through all fe...Expand for more
ar will always be safe.” ~The Tao Te Ching ---------------------------------------------------- Am I not destroying my enemies when I make friends of them? ~ Abraham Lincoln ...................................................... As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master. This expresses my idea of democracy. ~ Abraham Lincoln ...................................................... Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. ~ Abraham Lincoln ...................................................... A child miseducated is a child lost. ~ John F. Kennedy ----------------------------------------------------- A man does what he must - in spite of personal consequences, in spite of obstacles and dangers and pressures - and that is the basis of all human morality. ~ John F. Kennedy ----------------------------------------------------- A nation which has forgotten the quality of courage which in the past has been brought to public life is not as likely to insist upon or regard that quality in its chosen leaders today - and in fact we have forgotten. ~ John F. Kennedy ------------------------------------------------------- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes. ~ Mahatma Gandhi ----------------------------------------------------- I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent. ~ Mahatma Gandhi ----------------------------------------------------- A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus. ~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. ------------------------------------------------------ A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom. ~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. ------------------------------------------------------ Don't play what's there, play what's not there. ~ Miles Davis -------------------------------------------------------- “Sometimes you have to play a long time to be able to play like yourself” ~ Miles Davis". More about Greg:""The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little." -Franklin D. Roosevelt "Nothing is so strong as gentleness, nothing so gentle as real strength." -Sitting Bull "Science may have found a cure for most evils; but it has found no remedy for the worst of them all - the apathy of human beings." ~Helen Keller "Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities." ~ Voltaire "Though I do not believe that a plant will spring up where no seed has been, I have great faith in a seed. Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders." ~Henry David Thoreau Busy...I love life, I love my family and I'm a very passionate person who believes in keeping physically fit. At 48, 6'5/215lbs I suffer from Marfan Syndrome and had to stop all the physical athletics and change over to Yoga to stay in shape and avoid any damage to my heart. I truly miss competitive basketball so badly. But I've now found inner peace and less inner pain. I suggest anyone whose body has been through what mine has, try Yoga and Meditation. I study Eastern Philosophy, especially anything on Taoism. I recommend all people of all countries, religions, ethnicity, etc..., read The Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu.
