Greg's Story

Life Currently living in Loudoun County in NoVa. Relocated to Kansas City Metro 2014-2018 after living in Purcellville VA since 1998. Retired US Army 2007. Management consultant since 1997. Married since 1983 to Debbie (Sides) (met in college). One son, Brian, recent Georgetown graduate and now a Military Intelligence Officer with US Army at Fort Carson CO. Greg is a human capital management consultant, a certified Senior Human Resource Professional and a focus group director. Current job is as Performance Consultant to top leadership at Sprint in Overland Park KS. With 23 years of military service, Greg retired from the Army Reserves as a lieutenant colonel in 2007. School High school was a blast with lots of great memories. There is little I'd do differently though focusing more in certain areas may have changed. Active in sports and extra curricular activities provided a chance to meet and work with a cross section of GCHS. Everything from football and the ill fated Championship game of 1978 season at Southampton to cross country team startup to drama club to working for the Scott Press were rewarding. Really enjoyed the opportunity to hang with the band and announce at halftime senior year. Miss the fun and drama of HS sometimes and really hope to reconnect in someway with some of those folks from my past. My mom moved away from Yuma in Fall of 1980 so never really had a chance to "come home". College After finishing at Gate City in 1980, Greg headed to William and Mary and roomed freshman year with Steve Adkins (now Dr. Adkins). next three years. He graduated in 1984 with a BA in Government and a commission as a Lieutenant of Field Artillery in the Army. He'd later complete a Masters degree in Human Resource Management from Central Michigan Univ. Workplace Greg has had a variety of jobs over the past 30+ years. Here are a few... Paper delivery Photographer Short order cook Toy retailer Waiter Wine Steward Box office manager Camp counselor Handyman Army officer Consultant (Booz Allen Hamilton and IBM) Church vestry member Parks and Rec chairman Town Councilman and Vice Mayor Corporate advisor Still looking for more chances to learn... Military Started service as a cadet in ROTC at William and Mary. Graduated and headed to Ft Sill OK for Field Artillery Officer Basic Course in 1984. On the way to Germany and the 1st Armored Division got jump wings at Airborne course in Ft Benning GA. After three years in Nurnberg Germany, returned to Ft Sill for more Artillery schoolin' then to Ft Stewart GA and five years with the 24th Infantry Div. While there deployed to Desert Storm, commanded twice and welcomed a son into the family. Moved to Ft Meade MD in 1993 and served three years with the Defense Courier Service with chance to travel the world before taking a position with the Presidential Inaugural Committee in 1996/97. Left active duty as a Major in June 1997 and served with the 80th Inf Div (training) and their 3rd Brigade in a variety of positions finishing up as the Brigade Adjutant/S1. Pinned on Lieutenant Colonel oak leafs in 2002 and took a position with the Selective Service System as the Maryland Detachment XO. Made the decision to retire in 2007 after 23 years of service. Pension kicks in at 60!
