Gregg's Story
I have got to start out with George B. Armstrong. I don't know why but I have a strong affinity for my 9 years spent there. It was the building, hallways, classrooms and teachers that really make it a lifelong memory. Like the blackboards that raised up to be a cloakroom in every classroom. And the funky turn of the century gym-auditorium that doubled for where we ate lunch and then booked out those 8 doors to the playground. The Christmas plays where you had to wear a white dress shirt and dark pants or dress with those big huge red or green bowties carrying our homemade lanterns from oatmeal boxes, a flashlight tinsel, and colored cellophane whilst we did this goofy stutter-step in unison grade by grade on a entrance and exit procession down the aisles of the auditorium. rform. With the room lights off and miss Johnson and Mrs. bell working those huge spotlights with colored gels like in hollywood. I was one of Mr. Govern's tumbler's. 5 guys and a tire was my big stunt, in eight grade, during the Christmas play, i was caught up in the moment and decided to do six and tire. I made it but gave myself a bloody nose on the landing and tried to hide it so i was cool. My teachers were starting in kindergarten: Mrs. Wienstein, Mrs. Price, Mrs. Zolt(!), Mrs. Cunningham, Mr. Collins, Miss King, Mrs. Horberg, Miss Thompson, Mrs. Bell. I was a patrol boy, a recess "yard guard", an audio visual boy, where i got to be excused from class to set up and show a projector movie in another class room.
