Gregory's Story

Life 2016 ends and Life is Good no GREAT!!! Grandkids are growing, Children are amazing (youngest has published the first book of a three book deal, Carol and I are healthy and my Mom and Dad are alive and well...) Who could ask for more? My Spouse: I met Carol on a camping trip in California. My Kids: My oldest daughter Arielle attended Drew University and received her Masters from the University of Pennsylvania. She is married and lives in Houston, Texas. Arielle's first daughter, Mykaela, is a delightful 8 year old who has me wrapped around her little finger. Jade, my second granddaughter celebrated her 5rd birthday in 2010. UPDATE: My third grandchild is a boy... Torrin Gregory Lawson was born August 10, 2011. My youngest daughter Elienne graduated from the University of Virginia in the top 25 of her class and was nominated for a Rhodes and was a finalist. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Part of what makes this so special is that Elienne is profoundly deaf. Elienne recently completed her Masters at the Courtauld Institute at the University of London. In addition to English and American Sign, Elienne has learned to speak, read and write French and Italian, and has never heard them spoken. Eli's cochlear implant surgery and programming have been extremely successful. She accomplished her goal of being "communications independent" and has mastered telephone without a call attendant. Elienne had a second implant in her other ear in August 2005. Eli writes beautifully and has found a way to offset some of her foreign travel costs by writing travel articles. She has had four articles published by Escape Artists. UPDATE: Eli has published her first book (On Yoga) and hosts a weekly radio show under the name Ramdesh Kaur. I sold my business in early 2005 and am working on getting clear of the issues that always accompany such transactions. I am obligated to consult for several years and I'm trying to decide what to do next. I'm still into cars and have a small collection of five nice rides: a 68 Cadillac convertible (near showroom condition), a 94 Jag XJS Racing Coupe I bought new (supercharged, 5 speed and perfect), a 85 Mustang GT convertible (26,000 miles original everything and all the Saleen goodies), a 88 F250 HD (restored last year and stroked to 537 CID) and a 55 Chevy 2 door hardtop Bel Air Sport Coupe (4 speed and a 68 Vette motor) which I will restore to the next level this year. (See photo's if interested.) UPDATE I sold the Mustang for more money than I ever thought I would get and the 55 Chevy is finished. Although I had no symptoms of any cardiac problems, I failed a stress test as a part of my annual physical in 2005. My Cardiologist thought a stent or two and ...Expand for more
I would be good to go, well the Angiogram identified 100% blockage in 2 of the 3 arteries supplying my heart. June 20, 2005, I had a quad bypass using arteries harvested from my arms and chest. At 57, the projected 10 year life cycle of a typical vein bypass did not sound nearly as good as the 15 to 20 year enjoyed when arteries are used. Health comes first but I must admit that I am cranky because of the delays in restoration of the 55 Chevy. My children, grandchildren, the relationship with my wife and of course my cars are the lights along my path. I'm thankful that my cardiac problems were discovered and corrected before they cost me my life. I don't want to preach but all of us at our age should see a cardiologist annually at a minimum. I had no symptoms!!! 2008 and 2011 Update: I am very lucky to still have my parents as a part of my life. Although the high school years were rocky, as a result of me pushing the limits and making some flawed decisions, my relationship with my parents is wonderful. I have not been very good at keeping in touch through the years so I have not had the opportunity to apologize to any of you that I offended in the early years. If I owe you an apology drop me a note and I will do my best make it right. If you pissed me off... you are forgiven. I traded a few e-mails with a few classmate this year and it was pleasant. My wish for all of you in 2011 is that you find happiness and good health and and that your lust for life remains strong. I just reviewed my "story" and realized that I left out another of my addictions... Guitars! The electric batch includes: 2 vintage Stratocasters (56 & 62), and 2 custom Telecasters. I play through a near perfect, all original 1964 Deluxe Reverb, an old Delta Blues or a Fender Blues Junior when volume is a problem. Acoustics include a Martin 00028EC with a one-piece Brazilian Rosewood back and an original Baby Taylor for travel. 2009 also starts with another health opportunity, a full knee replacement of my right knee. My left was replaced in November 2009 and my right hip was replaced in September 2010. Knees went well... the hip has been a problem. Well it's November 2009 and 7 months into the restoration of my 55 Chevy... frame off and down to bear metal finished in PPG's Lemon Ice (Sikkins Base Coat Clear Coat) so far MySin, the rides license plate, exceeds my expectations... new interior for early spring. Pictures Posted. Oh yeah, I was advised that a new mole on my shoulder is melanoma... not the best of news but I it caught early. I won't bore you with the gruesome details but visit your Dermatologist frequently, our time at the beach in Southern California has a potentially high price. Oh the joys of getting old!!! Greg
