Gregory's Story
Life
A wonderful wife of almost 25 years. I'm not complete without her; "the wife of my youth." Four kids. One girl, then three boys (21, 19, 12, 10).
Flying 747-400's for a living. That's mostly "plan A." Funny though: I discovered real early that I'm a homebody. Traveled around the globe for over 20 years and the best place place is always, always home.
Living in beautiful Coeur d'Alene, north Idaho since summer 1999. Look me up.
Okay, "Life Bio".... Born the first time in January, 1962. Born again in October, 1980. Yah. Change happens.
School
It was okay. Some good times and some bad. Learned what life wasn't and where I started to learn what life was.
College
San Jose State
BS Aeronautic Operations (+$2 will buy coffee...but not the tip)
Workplace
I've been fortunate. I went to Air Force Undergraduate Pilot Training in April 1985. I worked hard, never quit and got'er dun. I flew the EC/KC-135 after that. Got out in April 1992. Was unemployed for a year and a half then delivered pizza's(!) before taking a Lear jet job for nine months. It was during this time (2.5) years that my wife and first two kids lived with my parents in the home I grew up in. Quite a period in our lives. I never had a doubt that I was...Expand for more
where I should be. All faith followed by hard work. There was never a better job hunter than me at that time. That Lear job brought me to the company I've been with since--an all cargo, all 747 operator. When I got there, there were 3 aircraft, now there are somewhere around 40. At 32, I was a Boeing 747 captain (one of the youngest ever).
With all that said, most people look at what I do (captain a 747-400 around the world) and think "wow!" Yep, it is "wow." It's nothing to sneeze at and I don't take it lightly or for granted. But it's a job and takes me away from where I want to be--home. Always the bad with the good. I'm pretty sure life wasn't designed to be a vacation. When it's all said and done, I'm just me, just like anybody else. I just happen to push myself into learning that I/we can do a lot (a whole lot) more than we think we can.
Planning on retirement at 55. We'll see though.
Military
Proud to have served. It makes a huge difference on how you view our men and women who live in harms way today. The best.
26 JAN 2008 at 9:07 PST: Guess what! I'm a GRANDPA ! ! ! I am not nuts and it's not just me: others keep saying what a good lookin' boy he is. He IS a good looking boy. Very proud indeed! :-)
