On March 14, 2005, Governor Jennifer M. Granholm signed an executive order, formally creating the Office of Community and Faith-Based Initiatives and appointed Greg Roberts as the Director. In this position, Greg is responsible for being the point person for Governor Granholm with faith/community leaders throughout the State of Michigan. For two year, Greg has assisted Governor Granholm in proactively reaching out to the faith community in an effort to establish strong relationships with faith leaders throughout the State. His duties are intended to help organizations in Michigan have a strong link to the Office of the Governor and state government and help organizations become more competitive for state and federal funding. Greg is also responsible for promoting “Mentor Michigan” with faith leaders to help recruit 10,000 adults statewide to provide a caring, loving relationship with children/youth in need....Expand for more
After the disturbances in Benton Harbor, in June, 2003, Governor Granholm appointed Greg to Co-Chair a Task Force designed to work with the residents of the city to develop tangible recommendations to address the social and economic ills that contributed to the problems in a once thriving city.
Before accepting this appointment, Greg served as the District Director for Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (D-13). Also, as deputy director for Wayne County’s Department of Community Justice, Greg was instrumental in the development of comprehensive, community-based initiatives working to make a substantial difference in the lives of young people and families.
Greg has dedicated his entire career to public service. He was the Director for Metropolitan Detroit Youth Foundation’s Learning Centers for Achievement, a high school dropout prevention program. He also helped create the Detroit Mentoring Center for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Detroit.
Greg has mentored and been an inspiration to a number of young people over the years and has worked with a myriad of community, faith and political leaders throughout his career and truly believes that “service is the rent you pay, for the space you occupy.”
Greg is a graduate of Central Michigan University and a proud father of four beautiful daughters.".
