Barbara's Story

Two days after graduating, I moved to Clovis to live with my Mother and go to school at Fresno City College. Thru friends met there, I met my husband Mike, just out of the Coast Guard. He and I moved to Maryland, which is where he was from, and got married in Dec. 72. We lived there for 10 yrs. (except for 5 mos. we moved back to Fresno, but he had a motorcycle accident and we moved back to Maryland) He worked for General Electric and I worked at a Title Co, and various mortgage co., then quit to stay home and raise our 2 beautiful daughters in 77 and 80. Work was slow at GE in early 80's, so we decided to moved back to Calif., to Visalia where my sister lived, and we started our own appliance repair business in 82. We are still doing that and are blessed with constant work. Our oldest daughter, Jessica, went to San Diego State and still lives down there working in insurance. Our youngest, Rebecca, went to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and is teaching third grade in Tulare. She and her husband, Jordan, of 5 years live 2 miles from us and have our only grandchild, Abby, the smartest kid on earth! They are expecting another child Aug. 2010. Jordan is the band director at one of the 4 high schools here in Visalia. My husband owns 8 motorcycles, four of which are Harleys. (He's a nut, I know) We have a motorhome and love to camp with friends. We've been to Sturgis, SD, Colorado, and Oregon. Being self-employed, it's hard to take more than 2 weeks off at a time, but hope to travel further in retirement, which Mike says won't happen till he's 70! (He's 61 now). We did manage to go to Tahiti on a cruise last year, an amazing trip! My parents are still hanging there in Santa Rosa, and still live on Link Lane where I grew up. We took them to Oregon in June (09) to visit an Aunt. What a trip! My brother, Ron, is still hanging around SR,living here and there. His son Jake just had a little boy, so Ron is a grandpa now too. till hanging in there, working and enjoying our granddaughter so much. I watch her 2 days a week and her parents are hoping for a sister/brother this year..then we'll have our hands full!!! UPDATE: Daughter gave birth to a baby boy in August 2010, cutest little guy! He passed away in October 2010 from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Two weeks before that, my brother Ron passed away from Throat Cancer after a long, painful fight. Our daughter gave birth to another little guy in April, 2012, and boy is he a hand full. Our oldest daughter Jessica got married in Sept. 2012, and is now expecting their first baby (a boy!) due in June. My husband had an eventful year last year, first someone rear ended him, then the next day he had his gall bladder removed , which was a planned surgery. In July, he was in a motorcycle accident and got pretty banged up, broke his right wrist in a couple places. That was an interesting time since he is self employed and needs his hands for his job!! He's pretty much healed up now. Would love for him to sell one or two of his bikes. What person needs 8 motorcycles?!? He has hit the Social Security age, but is still working and contemplating retirement in the next 2 years. We continue to work, go camping, and babysit the grand kids! ANOTHER UPDATE: Our oldest daughter Jessica and her husband Andrew just had a baby boy 6/16/2015. We are so in love with Charles Wilson Webb IV. UPDATE: We took a cruise to Alaska 9/15 and had a great time, but I wished we were on land more than on sea!!! My husband is talking about retiring this year, FINALLY! We are looking forward to traveling more in our motorhome. My Dad and stepmom are still going strong, they will both be 93 in the Fall. All three grandkids are growing up way too fast for our liking. Our 8 year old granddaughter got a part in the musical "The King and I" at the local junior college. Opening night tomorrow! Can't wait to see her in it.
