Guy's Story
Yes, I'm the same one as the other Guy D., just some more life changes. Going back to 1969, after graduation, I acquired a summer replacement job as a "tapeman" on a land survey crew in Sun City. I started out not knowing the first thing about the survey profession but was asked to stay on after the summer. I continued with the job until I received a letter, in mid 1970, saying I "won" a free physical and that my services were probably needed by our "rich Uncle Sam". I volunteered, signing up for a 3 year term of enlistment so I could be guaranteed the training to become a Field Artillery survey crewman. I ended up staying in the Army for 20 years, retiring in 1991, having been stationed in Viet-Nam, West Germany, Korea, Texas, and the far away location of Oklahoma. After the retirement ceremony at Fort Sill, OK, I moved to New Mexico with the mother of my children, 1 step son, 1 ...Expand for more
son and 1 daughter. In 2003. I divorced her in Roswell, NM and met my third wife there. We moved to Mesa, AZ in 2007 and 7 months later she was offered a job in Hawaii as the Executive Chef for YMCA of Honolulu. We lived on the North Shore of Oahu for a year and a half, then moved to Central Texas in 2009. I lost her to complications from cancer in April, 2014 and I decided to move back home to Arizona on Christmas day 2014. I am now the proud owner (along with the bank!) of a home very near to where I was working right before I went on the "World Tour" sponsored by Uncle Sam.
I have been blessed with 4 grandchildren, 3 boys (7,6, & 3) and one girl (a year and a half). I have driven around the Valley and it has changed so much since I left here in 1971. I remember Bell Road being a dirt road with cotton fields on both sided and Apache Junction was a long drive through open desert.
