Gwen's Story

Workplace I began with an AT&T company in 1984 which enabled me to achieve my AS Degree in Business. Next, I was an independent contractor for several years instructing a variety of personal computer classes. After a few years at home with the children, I decided to work in the tax industry at H&R Block, where I am currently an Office Manager and a member of the President's Tax Advisory Council. You can find me at taxprofinder.com to make an appointment with me to prepare your tax return. I actually spell my name Gwyn now. I have 4 children, ages 19 (daughter), 17 (son), 11 (son), and 7 (son). I have been married to Rob since 1984. Yes, he is the same Rob I dated my senior year at Wolfson. I also homeschool all my boys. I am a very devoted mom and wife and love my job, also. Story Wizard topics: I always wanted to be a lawyer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was an expensive idea. As it turns out, they were right. If I could have been anything I would have went to law school or I would have learned about photo journalism. I blow off steam by going to work, actually. It gives me time away from home, and challenges me at the same time. I like being productive when bothered about something. The wildest thing I ever did in school was actually a very nerdy thing, some might think. Gene and I stayed after school for band practice or yearbook (I can't remember) and glued the erasers to the chalkboard in Ms. Ciesla's class (Chemistry). We also ran around the school unplugging the cleaning lady's vacuum cleaner. She got angry because she had to walk about 100 feet to plug it back in every time...hehe. I never did anything really bad, just silly. I toilet papered a friend's car and a few yards as well. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have space, freedom, and an open door policy to be able to deal with the day-to-day. My obsessions are House (the tv show), Forensic Files, Medical Examiner Dr. G, X-Files, Sci-Fi Movies, teaching others, puzzles, games, brain teasers, music, my family (not necessarily in that order), Sat Night Live, and I have become a follower of American Idol (to guess the winner). I liked David Cooke from the beginning when I found out he was a puzzle person. He was very creative with his music style. My biggest surprise in life was my sisters' path in life. hasn't stayed the same at all. I miss the family I grew up with. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel my kitchen and add on a bigger island. I'd love to have an island that could seat up to 5 of us at the same time. My current one only holds 3 of us and we are constantly competing to sit there. My dream home would be an adobe style house. I absolutely love the Arizona style homes with an indian flare. We lived there for 2 years and I loved it! I loved the lack of humidity and when there was greenery, it was soooo pretty. I'd move back if given the opportunity. I've learned so much from my kids....mostly that all of us are so different from each other. I homeschool them now and I have learned how they think individually and that you can accomplish something several different ways. I hope the ability to teach them at home is never taken away from me. I appreciate every minute of it. It can also be very challenging. If I won $100 million, I'd give $1 million of it to my parents, then spend the rest on my kids' education, a house and live off the interest. I'd probably figure out something to do for the world (which would mean researching many different things). I want to be the CEO of Block! I don't know what happened to my first crush. His name was Brian Langston. And, he lived in Foley, Alabama. If anybody knows him, please tell me where he is. I'm curious. My best friend would tell you I'm smart and insightful, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as quiet and sweet...little do they know the talkative, inquisitive, side of me. My friend, Caryn Wells, I met in 9th grade at Jeb Stuart. I turned around and said to her, "Hi, my name is Gwyn. What's yours?" I had never done that before. And, I was trying to force myself out of my shell. We were friends ever since. It was the first day of school. And, it was in Miss Selah's class. Remember, Caryn? My first job was at McDonalds, where I got paid $3.35 to $3.40. What I remember most about it is eating hot fudge sundaes in the drive-thru. I quit after 7 months when they only gave me a nickel raise. I was so mad. I'll never forget that my dad taught me how to ride my bike. I was in first grade and he brought it home on the back of his truck. It was white with a metallic green banana seat. It was so cool to be able to ride it.
