Gwen's Story
Construction, Fire Trucks, Prison, Jesus
What do these things have in common?
Gwendolyn Watkins-Jones
Why do I associate these things with Gwendolyn?
GwendolynâÂÂs construction company is responsible for construction work at various sites in California, including the Bay AreaâÂÂs BART stations.
In 1995, she purchased a 50-year-old Truck manufacturing company named Gregory Truck Body & Fire Apparatus, Inc. and became the first Black Female in the United States, if not the only one in the world, to own and operate a company that design and build Fire trucks. She has recently changed her company name to Pride of America Vehicles, Inc.
If you understood her passion for her fellow man, you would understand that, what she is most passionate about is her prison work.
She has been going into the prison since she was the age of ⦠Well⦠â¦for well over 40 years, and through her work with inmates and the reentry program at San Quentin, she works tirelessly to assist parolees with training, housing, jobs and family reuniting.
Last but certainly not least is her relationship with Jesus, who she is often heard saying is the CEO/ President of her LIFE as well as business operations.
Though these things would be quite enough, there is much more to this lady.
I have come to know her and appreciate her many talents.
Here to tell you her story, much better than I could ever, and to share with you her passion, is the lady herself,
Gwendolyn Watkins-Jones

On Her Work With Children
Recognizing that children represent our future, they occupy a special place in Gwen'ÂÂs heart .Gwen personally feels that children do not aspire to be something they do not see. (She says: "They can'ÂÂt be it if they don'ÂÂt see it!) She encourages them to dream big and to reach for the stars. Groups of children from area schools were regularly treated to tours of the manufacturing facility and were able to observe firsthand how fire trucks, beverage trailers and specialty vehicles such as dump trucks and water trucks are built. The small visitors receive a generous dose of advice regarding the advantages of pursuing academic excellence and making an early career choice. Moreover, every child departing every tour leaves with the full knowledge and understanding that he or she too, through a combination of hard work, perseverance, dedication and preparation, can someday become a CEO too!
She gave the young visitors the formula of success in life. OneÂÂ Education
TwoÂÂ Self Confidence (Believing that you can do ALL things)
Three Prayer
Ms. Jones says if you include all three of her formula . . . . you CANNOT fail!
