Rene's Story
Life
Life has made a complete turnaround for me this year but to know what happened, you have to hear the story.
Left MAI in May 1980 and went to school in Manchester NH to study accounting. Got through my freshman year (barely) since it was my first time away from home and went into my sophmore year as a Resident Assistant at the new "North" campus.
Had some romance issues during this year which resulted in my dropping out at the beginning of my junior year. I guess I did not know what I wanted to be when I grew up. So I came back to Plattsburgh and bummed around a little trying to decide.
I ended up going back to school at Clinton Community College and getting my associates degree in Accounting. After that I joined the Air Force and was sent to Myrtle Beach SC for my first duty station.
Met my 1st husband while in South Carolina and got married January 1988. Ended up in Sacramento CA for awhile and then divorced in December 1990. Met my second husband in February 1992 and got married in September 1992.
My father passed away that year in November which was a big impact in my life but I moved forward. Fast forward to February 2006 and another divorce on the horizon. The previous year, I had sent an email out to sweveral old classmates to see if anyone was going to the MAI reunion weekend and ended up getting a response from Billy Douglas (class of 1978). We decided to attend the 2006 alumni weekend and rekindled our friendship. That lead to our romance which resulted in my move to Washington DC.

ton DC. I also have been exploring the city and recommend it as a vacation site to anyone who is interested - great place to visit. We are establishing our new home and enjoying the second chance that the Lord has given us.
We are planning to come to the MAI alumni weekend in May 2008 as it is Billy's 30th class reunion and we know alot of people will be shocked to see us back together after all these years. I am looking forward to it so hope to see other class of 1978 people there.
School
After graduation from MAI, I followed in the footsteps of my older sister, Ellen, and attended New Hampshire College in Manchester NH to pursue a degree in Accounting. Needless to say for this Catholic School Girl, it was quite an education being away from home and the parents for the first time. Living in the dorm my freshman year introduced me to the world of "bash" parties, sorority pledging and many crazy nights.
I continued my second year as a Resident Assistant at the North Campus and had a fellow MAI alumni (Andy Y-class of 1981) in residence. A little too much distraction led to a lower GPA and the decision to take a break from education in May 1982.
I went back to school in 1985 and completed my associate's degree in Accounting from Clinton Community College in May 1986.
While living in California I also attended University of California-Davis Extension and received my certification in Human Resources Management.
