Harry's Story

After Libbey, the US Air Force, Vietnam, worked in the electronics industry as a Quality Engineer. For the last 30 years I have worked for the US Department of Defense in Quality Assurance and in Program Integration. At some point, I managed to earn a Masters Degree in Education from Rutgers University. I am an amateur geologist, specifically, rock hunting and collecting. I plan to retire from the Government in August 2009 and pursue my hobby in Arizona. I hope my old friends remember me as an good friend. I always wanted to be a botanist when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a reach idea. As it turns out, they were indifferent. I have a variety of ways to relax. My favorte is fresh water fishing and visiting casinos. Not at the same time of course. The wildest thing I did at Libbey as a Freshman was, after staying late after practice and being locked inside the school, I tried to find a way out and accidentally walked through the doors of the cafeteria, which were unlocked. I saw the ice cream freezer and helped myself to three ice cream drumsticks. I walked the hallways trying to find a way out and eating ice cream. I finally found a rear door, through which I could squeeze. By the time I got out the remaining ice cream had melted in my gym bag. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have an education, confidence, and a car to be able to deal with the day-to-day. My uncle, Benn...Expand for more
ie Vick, is one of my heroes. I never met him and only talked to him a few times on the telephone when I was a child, but I was inspired by his service in the US Army during World War I when I was doing research on his life. The unbelieveable obstacles he had to overcome while living in the South and overseas was a testament to perserverance and survival under the worst of conditions. I have lived in Ohio, Illinois, Mississippi, Alaska, Vietnam, California, Maryland, New York, and New Jersey. The moves were due to military service and job locations. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Tommie Williams, because Were friends in Toledo, practically growing up together. We talk regularly via e-mail, but we have not seen each other.. My current age is 69. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be very, very old. I was so completely immature. Less than a year away from retirement, I am working smart. My first crush was on Louise Brower, my fourth grade teacher at Gunckle Elementary School. What happened to her? She perferred to stay married to her husband. The weirdest job I ever had was testing bubble gum while working for Topps Chewing Gum. Maybe it wasn't so weird. I share my home with no one, which I find absolutely fantastic. My first job was at a bowling alley, where I got paid $3.00 a night to set pins. What I remember most about it is the back breaking work.
