Paul Don's Story

Gee lets see: in a nutshell.... I got married right out of high school to Debbi Brubaker. We had 3 daughters in 1973,75 and 77. We lived at Papago Peaks Oasis in a trailer for a while then moved to Mesa to a nice 3bdrm house. We then moved to Wash. state, Ephrata, where we ran a large motel and apartment complex while I worked for USBR. We came back to Ariz. living in Prescott Valley for a while. I worked for the Forest Service. Then back to the valley living on 51st st. north of Mcdowell rd. while I worked for Artcraft Const. Co. building roads and bridges up north on the Hopi Res. We moved to Grand Junction, Colo. and I took a position as head of the survey crews mapping the Naval Oil Shale Reserve above the Colorado River on the Roan Plateau. Man! what a place, pristine forest land at 11,000' plus elevation. Wife left me while I was snowed under on a high peak for a week starving. My daughters and I plodded on living in Fruita, Co. for a while until moving to where I am now in Farmington New Mexico. I remarried a wonderful woman who had 2 young boys and another daughter. We've been happy ever since. ADDITIONAL WORK HISTORY: (Land Surveying has been my life) I am a registered land surveyor in Arizona. No. 26087. I surveyed for the construction of: the Metro Center, Sun City,(east and west and the Sun Dome), Rio Verde, Scottsdale Towers, Bee Line Highway, and numerous other developments in the valley and s...Expand for more
tate. I also worked for BLM and surveyed Geronimo's bloody trail from the San Simon valley to the White Mountains. I did mining claims at Ajo, Clifton/Morenci, and in the Superstitions. In Farmington I surveyed several bridges, a power plant, highways, a horse racing tract and grandstand, and lots of tough property surveys. More recently I've worked for the Navajo Tribe building highways, bridges, utilities, housing, UMTRAP projects,(uranium mill tailing's remedial action projects), the clean-up of the Kerr-McGee uranium mine and processing plant in Shiprock, NM, and surveyed 100s of miles of waterlines to the Dine',(Navajo for people), all over the reservation. These people had no running water or other utilities. It was good to help provide these utilities to so many folks, who were in such need. I ran my own surveying company for a while until deciding to retire and do the things I've always wanted to do. "Ride to live...Live to Ride"!! These days find me riding my Harley and various ATVs. I do a lot of: hunting and shooting, fishing, rock hounding, geology study, photography, and back country hiking. I'm just a boring old grandpa now with 12 Grand kids from my 6 children. This is the most important thing to me, and and I spend most of my free time with them and my beautiful wife, Linda Kay. We've traveled Europe and the Southeast U.S. and are always looking for an excuse to get away... Be Free! Paul Don
