Kim's Story
Life
My life didn't go as I had always thought it would. I wanted to get married in my mid twenties, have a couple of kids, travel and live happily ever after.
I did a little bit of traveling. I went to Maui for a week, took a week off to cruise to and stay in Puerta Vallarta, went to New Zealand for a month to visit a friend and see the country (what a great 30th birthday present to myself!), been to Monument Valley, Niagara Falls, I've seen the Alamo, went to the Hot Air Baloon Festival in Albuquerque (my second time in a hot air balloon), and various other trips here and there.
After dating an English guy for 3 years, we got married in 1994, then divorced in 1998. We tried to have a child of our own, but I had several miscarriages. His teenage son lived with us from age 13 to 18 - not what you'd call the fun years of raising a child. Although things were very difficult at the time, we are all friends now.
I have 5 nieces and nephews so I've been able to enjoy kids vicariously. I have enjoyed photography since I was a teenager and I'm the family photographer, so that...Expand for more
all adds up to a lot of pictures. I wanted to make a bookcase to hold my boxes of photos. I took a woodshop class at Kennedy Adult School in 1998 and met a guy named Lou. He had also graduated from Kennedy, a few years after I did. We became friends, then dated for a few years, then got married in June 2003. (I should have stuck to my guns and not married someone else with with teenage kids.) We are getting a divorce (2008).
As far as work goes, I had been working in the accounting department at law firms for the past 20 years. At the last firm, business had been declining for several years, and there were many layoffs. After 9 years, I became one of them.
In July 2004 I had surgery on my right shoulder for a torn rotator cuff. While recovering, I decided it was time for a new career.
I am now selling real estate with Lead Realty & Financial Services in Sherman Oaks and doing some accounting work on the side (sometimes more of one, sometimes more of the other).
I look forward to enjoying the next chapter in my life :)
Enjoy your life and have a great day!
