Steve's Story

When I left Bremen, I got a partial scholarship to Florida State University in Tallahassee FL. I met my wife Hilda the first week of school and we've been together since 1964, married since 1968. We have three kids, Heather and Melissa, both accountants, and David, my business partner at the Melting Pot of Huntsville, AL. It's huge to work with your son. We have lived in my wife's home town of Enterprise AL for more than forty years. She is a teacher nearing retirement, and there are no jobs for her in Huntsville, so we are job-separated for a while, but the end of that is in sight. I have three granddaughters now, and it's all good. Most of my career, I have been a banker, and dealt with insurance, securities, but mostly bank operations, and at one time was a computer geek, but the technology has passed me by. Other than my awesome kids, my greatest accomplishments have been to help start a Korean language church that the experts said we couldn't do, developing a computer subroutine which calculated natural logarithms in a language which IBM didn't do, building a residential golf...Expand for more
community, and starting a restaurant with my son right in the middle of the latest financial crisis. When Lehman Brothers and General Motors were dying, we kept our financing and employ 40 people. God has blessed us in so many ways. In December 2009 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, and am recovering from surgery. I think the cancer part is fixed, but I haven't gotten over the side effects yet. That may or may not happen, but I'm going on with my life a day at a time. Recently I had some old Hagins' family movies translated to DVD, and am patching together some clips from Canterbury Elementary School field trip to Springfield, and Bremen 64 Homecoming Parade and a 1962? football game, as well as some prom stuff which included a bunch of us going to Starved Rock State Park, and maybe some stuff from Indiana dunes. I don't have it all figured out yet, but when I do, I'd like to make it available to anyone who is interested. I don't yet know the best format to do that. Hope each of you is doing well. I guess, in retrospect, I am more blessed than anyone you know. Be well. Steve
