Hal's Story
After graduation I tried one semester at Forest Park Community College. I was burned out on school. So I continued working full time at Schnucks. When my draft notice came I enlisted in the Air Force. My duty stations were in Thailand, Scott AFB, and on Guam. Overseas I worked with munitions. In the states I was in Security Police/Law Enforcement.
After the AF I went back to Schnucks for a short stint. I took a job working for a church and cemetery. That job allowed me the flexibility to attend Meramec Community College (Associates in Management and Supervision) and Tech School (HVAC Service). Following that job I worked for a few HVAC contractors. I ultimately joined Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 562 as a service technician. I worked for the same contractor for 30 years. It is hard to drive around the metro area and not pass or be in sight of one of the buildings I worked on. I retired Dec. 1, 2015.
I have been married to Kathy (Lindbergh "68) for 45 years (this Sept.). Our son Paul is a Landscape Architect (Kansas State Univ., 1999) in Denver. He...Expand for more
and Margret have two dogs, 6 chickens and two bee hives. Our daughter Amyis a counselor (Central Missouri State Univ, 2000 and masters from Pittsburg State Univ, KS, 2017) at Webb City High School (Joplin, MO area). She and David have 2 daughters.
We have lived in the same house in Concord Village since 1973. It has been a continual sweat equity venture. Our kids attended Lindbergh Schools. Kathy and I liked to travel the US seeing the sites. We got to make her dream trip to Paris and France. We also did a lot of fishing at the lakes of Missouri and Illinois.
Unfortunately Kathy has suffered a series of unfortunate health issues over the last few year. Her stroke in 2014 has left her wheelchair bound. So I elected to retire and care for her. Update: The care continues. I have outfitted a Transit 150 medium roof van with a Hoyer style lift. This allows her to access the front seat of the van. I also installed a supplemental frame on our boat trailer the allows us to use the same lift assembly to get her in and out of our boat. Fishing once again.
