Sharon's Story
Hi everyone,
I got married to my first husband soon after high school. We were married for 3 1/2 years and I had one daughter. When she was about 8 months old I went to work for Motorola at 52nd Street and McDowell. While I was there I went through my divorce and met my second husband. He was stationed at Luke AFB and had about 5 months left on his 4 year stint. We were married shortly after he finished the AF and have now been together for 44 years. We raised 5 children, 2 girls and 3 boys. Ray adopted my oldest daughter. We lived in West Phoenix for most of the time, as Ray worked at Goodyear Aerospace as an electronic tech. We did live in Minneapolis for 2 years after we had our 2nd child (the first together). Ray got a job in the civil service and that took us back to Phoenix. He was with Lockheed which was at Luke AFB. Then again when our 5th child was 4 years old we had the opportunity of moving to Colorado Springs. Loved all four years we were there. The bad economy and Ray's unhappiness with his job there brought us back to Phoenix and Ray back to Goodyear Aerospace. In 2005 we sold our home in Mesa (we had finally broke away...Expand for more
from west Phoenix) we sold just a few months before the real estate bubble popped. We bought an Airstream travel trailer and new truck and hit the road for 15 months.
We traveled through every state west of the Mississippi. Then we decided to buy a home in Fort Worth, Texas. Homes here were much more affordable, the real estate craziness had not affected Texas. We have been here for two years now and Ray loves Texas more than I do. My dream would be to move back to Arizona and live in a small town in the north part of the state. I have my eyes on Snowflake. I was born in Eagar which is not too far from there and it is only 15 minutes from Showlow. All of our children are in Arizona and one son in Washington state. So it gets a little lonely here with no family. We have some great friends here and we are very active in our church.
I was able to be a stay at home mom after our 2nd baby was born and did not have to go to work for any length of time until 1990 and I went back to Motorola in Tempe at their Computer Group plant on I-10. I was there for 13 years and then Ray and I were able to retire. We REALLY love retirement.
