Janette's Story

Story Outline.... Worked downtown LA for a year College in Texas Graduated from Texas Tech. Major: Art/Special Education Married briefly to my frat boyfriend. Not a good match. Post Grad several Universities Training as a Teacher of the Deaf in Santa Fe. (year long experience) Teacher/Process Evaluator in Espanola Valley (between Santa Fe and Taos) two years 18 schools. Did not enjoy teaching. (lots of stories but more later) Had a great time with the artists and migrating folks, (yes some were Hippies) Spent a lot of time at various ashrams, spiritual communities. Began my own journey. Mostly learning just who i am. Don't think i had an individual identity until this time. Move to Lubbock and lived in a band/artists house with friends i had met during graduate school. You would possibly know them. Flatlanders. (on Letterman a week ago. House rule no drugs!.. We were explorers of a different kind. The music reflects that. We all scattered and eventually came back together in Austin. Co. 28 full time employees and 250 volunteers .Lots out touring... Our actors worked on Broadway and London with stage version of Children of a Lesser God.Lots of fun, hard work and success. Regrouped after Savings and Loan failure cut our funding. Lived in my art studio and made mostly fiber sculpture. Most were very large installations. Married and things changed again. He is an excellent songwriter and guitarist. WE both worked and were part of the founding group; Texas Music Network. 3 recording studios and performance spaces on or near 6th Street in Austin.Some of the group helped start SXSW. There was no sleep, lots of activity but what a time! Funding was always short. Folded. Moved into more stable employment working at treatment centers. Mostly with Post Traumatic Stress/Alcohol. Founded Native American Pottery Production Company. 43 employees over 8 years. Sold all over the country. Founded Migrations Gallery Hot Springs SD. Just sold both and am semi retired. Living in Ranchos De Taos working with State and Local Arts groups.
